Competency 1.0: Graduates must be competent in providing the dental hygiene process of care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation to people of all stages of life, ages, and cultural backgrounds.
Throughout our time in Clinic II, we showed our competency in the dental hygiene process of care by completing a Preventative Strategies Patient and using that information to help us with the paper. While we worked with these patients we had to address all parts of care essential to our dental hygiene role. We also learned why these steps are critical to provide to every patient. During our semester in Clinic III we spent time working on a periodontal maintenance paper. This allowed us to evaluate a patient that has had previous treatment in order to assess their current oral health. After spending time with this project it showed us what steps in the process of care we need to take to help patients progress to health or maintain it.
Evidence for the Process of Care Competency will include:
- The Preventive Strategies Patient (PSP) from Clinic II PSP paper from Clinic II
- The Periodontal Maintenance Patient (PM) from Clinic III PM case study
- Snap Shot of all patients treated during their time in the program (Types of patients (AAP case type, amount of calculus, ages, gender, culture, disabilities). This can be done in chart form. Patient snapshot
