Professor is very clear about expectations/ structure of the course

Absolutely dedicated and engaged professor

Fastest grading i’ve experienced at all hours of the day — dedication.
Professor Al-Rawi is always very quick to respond with questions and concerns and he also grades very quickly, which was appreciated.

While sometimes there is a very circuitous approach to teaching a subject at times, Professor Al-Rawi is very knowledgeable in nearly
every area pertaining to networking and cyber security and can easily answer questions. I found his approach to teaching to be very
informative and helpful, and I appreciated that sometimes he explained things at-length when others may be looking for a more superficial
answer to help them get a required screenshot faster.

I will be completely transparent: As with most college students, I looked up Professor Al-Rawi on Ratemyprofessor.com and saw very
mixed reviews. I don’t base my entire assumptions of how the class is going to go on only these reviews, but let’s just say that I was
nervous going into this semester and had made the assumption I was going to have to teach myself a lot of the material or heavily
supplement in order to understand. I am very pleased and thankful to say that this was not my experience, and I am so thankful I went with
Professor Al-Rawi for this course and will be for future courses as well. Although his accent may be difficult to understand at times, and he
isn’t one to just give meaningless, quick answers to questions, if you truly care about bettering yourself and learning the material so you
can implement it into a future career (which is what I’m trying to do and also changing careers at that), then he is an exception instructor to
go with. I am also very thankful that he spends extra time troubleshooting why a lab/homework assignment is not working in class even if it
sometimes means not finishing them completely during class time, because taking this extra time to walk through troubleshooting steps
and seeing his thought process was key to bettering my understanding. I do wish at times he asked a question during the troubleshooting
process and allowed students to try to answer instead of providing the answer immediately, but I also understand that sometimes you can
just stand there forever and no one will speak up and that also there’s only so much time in class to be utilized, so sometimes he must just
proceed with answering the question himself. I can’t thank you enough for all your hard work and for the great semester, Professor Al-
Rawi!
Would recommend this professor for anybody

IT 206-376   Spr 24    202401-Network_Security_Fundamentals

He intimidated me, towered over me and told me I hadn’t bothered listening when I asked a question.
Instructor is quite funny even when unintentional

Only goes over labs, labs that he often makes mistakes on. I have left the classroom without him getting a single lab finished

IT 231-377     Spr 24 202401-Linux_Administration_(202401_11063_IT_231_377_aalrawi)

Excellent set of additional materials offered with the syllabus.
Great structure

Always willing to answer questions and encourage self-troubleshooting while providing guidance.
Excellent instruction. Every instructor should teach this way. Walking students through the labs HELPS the process and makes it so much
easier to understand.
fast but very productive class environment

Professor Al-Rawi returns messages in a timely manner, making it easier for students to get answers and continue their work.
Very quick to respond to student questions!

He actually talkes about troubleshooting Linux, which helps the learning process. Excellent!
Very effective teacher!

Great course feel like I learned a lot even though i struggled being new to this subject
Great instructor! Always a pleasure, definitely learn a lot from him. I like how he has everything set up.
Highly recommend the course. As a foreigner, I had some initial difficulties with the instructor’s dialect which in no way is indicative of any
issues. In fact, once used to it, the instructor is clear and methodical. Again, highly recommend this class with Mr. Al-Rawi.

I do believe the course structure is good, I just feel like the layout in canvas could be better.

Needs better people skills.

The assignments are graded very quickly, even on the weekends. I also received email responses on the weekends.
Very communicative and helpful when I was stuck on assignments.

Minimal feedback was provided.

Awesome instructor! Always a pleasure, always learn a lot from him. I really like how he has everything set up, provides a lot of helpful
resources. I appreciate the lab recordings too
Course material and labs are challenging and worthwhile, I feel as though I did learn a great deal.
Great course! I learned a lot! The layout in canvas is bit confusing and could use some organization, but there is a lot to learn and lots of
great labs!
It was a good class for the most part! Honestly, some of the lab instructions are written like crap and it’s hard to understand. Not to mention
some of the labs were wrong and had to be corrected multiple times. Overall, good teacher though! He was fast at responding (like literally
within a minute one time). He is hard to understand, but does his best to get everyone to learn during his time

An amazing teacher who needs a raise

assignments were added and removed/rescheduled/edited very frequently in the first half of the semester leaving no chance to plan ahead
also assignments frequently contained obvious technical errors that any amount of proofreading by a subject matter expert would spot
instantly ie; ip addresses missing numbers, nonfunctional abbreviations of commands, obvious typos caused by blatant copy pasting from
other cisco handouts.

It would be helpful if all items in canvas are setup in a logical workflow.

The instructor didn’t follow the deadlines on the syllabus. I was confused because he always came in with assignments on different weeks
due to his lack of time management. One time we were getting behind one week because he was spending too much time going thought
one assessment and making errors.

An amazing teacher who needs a raise

He doesn’t have a presentation on the topic that we are going to learn. Instead, he just jumped right into the assessment and started
working on it.

An amazing teacher who needs a raise

He answers emails, but they are so unorganized. Sometimes, he sends you more than one email just to answer your question.

constantly handed out near full command lists making lab assignments nearly complete themselves when using the paste to terminal
functionality in netlab, this was an open secret all semester designed to pad the passing rate of the class. seeing as the grading structure
for the course is heavily weighted by labs and trivializing them makes the course nearly impossible to fail. this was done as his lecturing
techiques and seeming lack of familiarity with his own assignments rendered him unable to lecture on the required concepts for completing
labs and homework in the time allotted for lecture in a given week.

like I said before, he doesn’t present the topic and only goes over the assessment. Sometimes he makes mistakes and he is not very clear
on what is going on.

An amazing teacher who needs a raise
I emplore you to assess a few assignments and lectures from this section of this course and evaluate if this meets the standard set out for
JCCC coursework and in addition the accreditation requirements for college courses set out by the Higher Learning Commission, in my
opinion this course failed on several attributes outlined in the third criterion for accreditation listed on their website (https://www.
hlcommission.org/Policies/criteria-and-core-components.html) I would have gotten a refund for this course if i had any other path to
graduate in the spring this material doesn’t meet the standards set by other professors in the department and would not even be worthy
busywork at a diploma mill. You need to do better.

I think it is very helpful to have the class recordings available to us. However, I don’t know that so many of the previous semester
recordings are needed. I think if we were given our current classes recording along with any other recordings from different sections of the
same class in the current semester, that might be helpful. Our class might not have the same problem during a lab demo for instance, or
someone might have a question that we didn’t think about. Mostly, I know our class fell behind and at times I would have liked to be able
to watch the recording from the other class that I think was more on schedule. Its also possible that time issues cause problems with the
labs… like if we are running short on labs and you try to finish one more quickly. Maybe the other class didn’t have that problem, ran on
time and had a better demonstration of the lab.

Just my opinion… not sure if others would care. Over all I appreciate Dr. Al-Rawi. He is extremely knowledgeable and truly wants to be
helpful and see us succeed.

I wouldn’t take another class with him, but since he is the only one teaching the network security and ethical hacking class. I don’t have
any other choice but to take them with him, which makes me really upset.

IT 206-376    Fall 23      202308-Network_Security_Fundamentals

Akram is a fantastic professor that truly knows the material he is teaching. He keeps the environment in the class room conductive to
learning and truly respects his students time (never once went off topic and blabbed about something no one cares about), which is rare
from my experience with other professors. At the same time you can till Akram is very charismatic about helping his students learn, leaving
helpful corrections and comments on the assignments he grades lightning fast. I would chose Akram as a professor over any other teacher
I have ever had.
I enjoyed being taught by Professor Al-Rawi. He’s an excellent teacher. Thank you!

IT 230-378    Fall 23       202308-Linux_Fundamentals

The teacher repeatedly made comments after helping a student along the lines of “And now we have wasted X minutes of our class.”

The course could almost teach itself and the teacher added very little of value to it.

IT 231-376     Fall 23      202308-Linux_Administration

Professor is extremely thorough regarding expectations and guidelines for the class.
The material on canvas could be much better organized.

Grades assignments extremely quickly, and is readily available.

Instructor simply walks students through labs. A little too much handholding.
Recorded videos are very helpful and well-done, I have found that having the videos enables me to absorb the material more effectively by
being able to rewind and really grasp the material while supplementing the topics with other resources

Absolutely dedicated professor
Professor Al-Rawi is an excellent professor who has taught me a great deal. I will miss him. Thank you!
Wish the labs were more engaging.

IT 239-350    Fall 23     3.8  202308-Ethical_Hacking

Additional labs were added, which made it difficult to plan out the semester. For full-time working students, who try to plan their week or
even further in advance, this can become very burdensome.
This was an online class that had most assignments through NETLAB and the instructors personally built labs through the schools VMs

Great and very quick communication. Offering paths to learning rather than providing simply an answer. Excellent!
I have no issues with how the instructor presented himself personally or how he treated me during the class.

As mentioned previously, excellent communication in a very timely manner.
The instructor is probably the most responsive one i have ever had. He even seems to be extra attentive during midterms and finals, both
of which i had questions while i was taking them and got responses back within a half hour which i greatly appreciated

Modules page is jumbled and all over the place. Should never be using lecture videos from over a year ago as are curriculum didn’t follow
them. Posting multiple lecture videos is incredibly confusing and counter intuitive. You need to take the time to create a dedicated lecture
video for online course.
NETLAB and the prebuilt labs were great. The instructors labs were helpful but i believe he needs to go back and audit some of them
because there are certain things that don’t work. Especially the ones he built himself but uses NETLABs VM environment.
The instructor offered paths to learning rather than providing simply an answer. Excellent!

Enjoyed the class and the material, the amount of reading wasn’t overwhelming and there were plenty of hands-on labs to make sure I
understood the material.
Felt like a barely learned anything. Any question I had was met with a simple “figure it out response” even when asking which lecture
videos for the week I should be focusing on the most. Teacher exudes the fact that he could care less about how students are learning the
material. would not recommend this class or professor to anyone.
I enjoyed this class and the instructor. NETLAB worked very well and did a good job of taking complicated ideas/ instructions and walking
me through it.. I appreciated the instructors home made labs and did find value in them but they did not work very will in NETLABs
environment, these need to be taken out or restructured. They worked better in the schools VM structure but again, i think the class needs
to be audited by the professor again and have some of the instructions tweaked. Overall i enjoyed the class and the instructor.

IT 239-376    Fall 23   202308-Ethical_Hacking

although the instructor is doing his best to get the students thorough ,the amount of homework is out of norm. we try our best but it is
almost undoable with the other busy lives we have as adults who work all week and got families and kids and a lot more responsibilities
throughout the day. hope you look into this and help the next student taking this Course

IT 230-376    Sum 23: 202306-Linux_Fundamentals

Everything is laid out clearly and concisely in the syllabus. Professor Al-Rawi did a great job of communicating how grades are determined, when assignments were due, and where to access materials needed to complete everything in the course.

Professor Al-Rawi often stops to ask if students have any questions. He gives ample time to respond before continuing. He treats his students with the upmost respect and holds himself in an incredibly professional manner.

I did not have to e-mail any questions to Professor Al-Rawi because he answered them during class.

I feel as though any bad feedback surrounding Professor Al-Rawi’s method of teaching is simply due to neglect on the part of the students. Professor Al-Rawi’s method of teaching is great. He goes over labs and teaches not only what to do and how to do it but why it is done. If students do not read, it can be difficult to follow, but that is on the student and not Professor Al-Rawi’s teaching method.

I truly enjoyed Professor Al-Rawi’s course and look forward to taking his classes in the future.

IT 141-376     Sum 23 202306-Introduction_to_Networks

He valued student’s time and if we when over he advised we could leave

very open to student question and always willing to take time to help any student.

I did really ask questions about how I was doing. I can go by the grading metric to the upper right-hand portion of the page. However, he did provide feedback for answers I got wrong and submission of the wrong assignment.

I re-watch all the classes that were recorded that I attended.
very good at presenting the material in an efficient mannor

For summer courses, some things need to be reduced or condensed. The end of the Cisco course (reading) was like a summary of parts from the start. But I guess Cisco wanted to tie issues in for understanding purposes.
Full transparency, instructor was hard to understand at times and went fast at times, BUT he ALWAYS made himself available to answer questions and responded fast when needed, and the classes were recorded so you could always re-watch. One thing that would be beneficial would be offering additional tutoring so that you can hear different versions from different teachers to contrast and help understand better

IT 202-376    Spr 23:  202301-IT_Scripting

When you are coding in python, you should be using a real IDE such as VS Code or some other python code editor. No one coding in python would be writing code using the NANO editor. Also, there were so many wording errors in the assignment documents and sometimes it was unclear the full expectations of the assignments.

Again, this class should be taught using a proper python code editor. The wording in the assignment documents needs to be reviewed and corrected. Overall, this class was done poorly. An all around excellent teacher

Dr. Al-Rawi’s flexibility allowed many students to utilize his online recorded lectures.

Dr. Al-Rawi provided in-class instruction and Zoomed at the same time. He also provided previous semester recorded lectures at the
beginning of the semester so students who wanted to work ahead could instead of waiting each week for the Zoom. Dr. Al-Rawi really
gave every student the ability to tailor their experience.

Dr. Al-Rawi often answered emails late into the evening. Always very timely.

Dr. Al-Rawi is truly an asset to the school and to his students.

very respectful and easy to learn from.

Very good turn around time for grading and emails.
always will answer questions or help you out.

There were times that he was hard to understand and/or follow. Instructions for assignments were often confusing, missing, etc. But I will
say that he wasn’t picky on exactly what screenshots were submitted. As long as you could show you understood the concepts, you would
do well on the assignments.

Akram Al-Rawi is an excellent teacher. Linux 231 is one of the harder classes in the curriculum (in my opinion) and he does an excellent
job of explaining. He is always willing to help and answers emails very quick.

Dr. Al-Rawi is a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable professor.

This course was strictly online though Dr. Al-Rawi offered Zoom lectures to go over labs if needed.

Dr. Al-Rawi is extremely responsive and always available to his students. I really appreciate him.
Professor Al-Rawi always responds to emails so quickly. It’s very helpful.

I learned so much from all of the supplemental material that Dr. Al-Rawi provided!

I really enjoyed this class. The instructor focuses on covering the labs which is great because he explains what the commands do or other
commands and tools that work in a similar way. There is a lot of the “why” included in his instruction that isn’t always listed in the lab
materials. He has been one of my favorite instructors as I have gone through my courses at JCCC. Feel like I learned a lot!

I would have enjoyed taking this course in-person with Dr. Al-Rawi, but I appreciated how much I learned online as well.

My only complaint is small: there was an optional zoom meeting for this class, but I didn’t know ahead of time and already had a class on
that evening.
Thank you!

The professor gave us the content needed for this course and much more to supplement the learning. I appreciate all the information and
him being available if ever had any questions / issues arise

IT 204-377    Fall 22:  202208-Enterprise_Network__Sec__Autom

Instructor was good. We had a couple hiccups with NDG labs and getting things set up. It was a bit frustrating a couple times. But the
instructor logically explained things and it was a good learning experience. Also despite the hiccups I do appreciate him developing new
content beyond what Cisco and NDG gives to further refine skills. I can say, I really know how to set up OSPF. I see router-id 1.1.1.1 in my
sleep.

Haven’t had to email him. But assignments are graded fast. Generally same day, at max two business days, I’ve turned in assignments,
started working on another and have had my first assignment graded in the hour it took me to finish the second one. No complaints here

Haven’t had too much individual assignment. either the router and switch are set up or they aren’t. He does have a lot of information on
canvas and presents a lot of information in class. Quite honestly haven’t had to email him because I’ve always had what I needed

Good stuff, happily signed up for another class he’s teaching next semester.

Class environment was always open for questions and going through the work together in class was useful. Often we go over common errors during class time so it is familiar if those errors happen when i am working on my own.

Even though this is an online class, the teacher always asks if anyone needs helps or has questions during the zoom sessions.

The instructor replies almost immediately to emails and always tells you what you did wrong on an assignment.

I love how the teach walks you through step by step on the assignments.

By far my favorite teacher. His teaching and explanations make it very easy to understand the work. I was nervous taking the class without knowing anything but with him talking you through every step, it really helped.

There were a few time that when the NDG curriculum didn’t work or aligned within our VM environment. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as it gave opportunity to troubleshoot but it did sometimes make the material a little unclear.

Professor Al-Rawi always answers questions thoroughly and is happy to help students get where they need to be. If he doesn’t know something he spends plenty of time (outside of class) researching the answer and then sends his findings to us students.

Professor Al-Rawi has one of the fastest response time I have ever encountered.

Professor Al-Rawi expects students to do the reading on their own time and helps us through the practical side of things in class. Lecture involves expanding on the commands we are using in the lab and troubleshooting issues we come upon. He is patient with all types of questions.
Teacher just does the work. Doesn’t actually “teach” just talks your ears out!!!!!

Doesn’t teach! Canvas Assignments are all over the place. Needs to be better organized. Very Frustrating.
He is an excellent teacher and presents his classes in an easy to follow way that really helps understand the topic. 10/10
Professor Al-Rawi is a JCCC treasure. Well-experienced and knowledgeable in many subjects, intelligent, a great teacher, and still has a curious mind ready to seek answers to problems that arise through the semester. I’m glad to have the opportunity to take several of his classes.

IT 206-376   Spring 22:  202201-Network_Security_Fundamentals

The instructor was very detail in his works.

He leaves good comments for homework and labs which helps
Mr Al-Rawi respond to email even on days or time I don’t expect him to.

He does a great job with visual presentations and speaking.

Thank you for allowing us to use Zoom to do remote learning for those who can’t make it every class period.

IT 202-376   Spring 22:  202201-IT_Scripting

This class did not require a prerequisite; however, I am glad I had taken Intro to Python before taking this class. The instructor is great about explaining the code for the labs line by line and he provided a variety of materials to learn from including websites and PPTs. The curriculum in NetAcad is awful. It jumps around in places before explaining a full concept and on occasion assumes the reader knows things that have yet to be introduced. The labs have unrealistic expectations of 10–15-minute completion times when in fact they could take hours for a beginner with no experience to write. Luckily the instructor explains them thoroughly.

IT 239-350   Fall 21: 202108-Ethical_Hacking

Descriptions for assignments can sometimes be messy/unclear on the order.

One of the fastest professors to reply and gives you a throughly explanation

I thought the instructor did a good job of explaining the labs and helping us learn the material through hands-on activities.
I was amazed how quickly he responded to emails. If I sent him an email on a Sunday evening, he would respond within 5 minutes. I really
enjoyed his class and teaching style
I wish the class would’ve gotten really detailed with a couple of tools rather than only briefly mentioning a bunch of different ones. I feel like
lectures didn’t explain things very well either. He just did the assignments in class and did not provide a lot of explanation.

IT 231-376    Fall 21: 202108-Linux_Administration

never had to email

Good class. I was unfamiliar with Linux before starting at JCCC and 230 and 231 were easy to follow and learn from. This course was a
great follow up and kept a realistic and easy to follow pace with lots of good information.

IT 175-376    Fall 21:202108-Cybersecurity_Fundamentals

Structure was easy to understand and follow.

While the instructor often asked if there were any questions, the class could have used more active participation.

If I miss something on an assignment, Akram is very good at explaining what I missed and how to correct what I have done incorrectly.
The instructor was very knowledgeable and easy to follow.

Akram Al-Rawi is a great professor and I sincerely look to take courses taught by him every semester. This may be the greatest course I
have ever taken by him, and I have taken several. I have learned a lot from Professor Al-Rawi.

IT 204-377   Fall 21: 202108-Enterprise_Network__Sec__Autom

i think it would have been more useful to focus on lectures rather than working on the homework.

I wish that lectures were used to teach more of the exam material instead of just walking us through the labs.
The course covers a wide range of topics and can sometimes get a little convoluted. It works ok but the content felt hard to keep track of at
times because of its scope.

He did not say how i was doing but i know i did terrible, with life complications and starting the course late due to jccc bookstore not having
the laptop i needed before start of course, and just not being able to catch up, i gave up in better luck next semester.

I feel this course should be in person, obviously some can follow online but not me.

He tried to work with me even though was enrolled in class late and had a lot of tech issues and trouble with them scheduling my class
during morning when have 8-5pm. Thank you so much!

IT 230-Summer 21:  202106-Linux_Fundamentals

Prof. Al-Rawi was great at responding in a quick manner whenever I needed help. Wouldn’t have been able to maintain a good grade if he
had been even average in this regard.

I wish there were labs like the skill assessments every week instead of the labs we were doing. I felt like I learned the most from doing
those. Labs worked well for lecture though, just a little dry at times.

I appreciated that in this course we used the virtual machines set up by the instructor instead of the machines in the Cisco course. The
Cisco machines were set up specifically for the course so they behaved as expected, ours were different in some ways and this led to
sometimes needing work around things differently. This helped me on a few occasions understand much more thoroughly what we were
practicing. Troubleshooting is a valuable skill and I appreciate that we got to experience some of that in this course, I think it will also help
me retain more of what we learned. The instructor was very responsive to email, and provided plenty of opportunity for questions in the
labs.
I felt like I was challenged more in the UNIX Fundamentals class. With labs being reasonably difficult it forced you to understand in order
to get a good grade. I did get a better understanding of partitions and filesystems in this course though and was provided a good recap on
everything else.
Loved the course! Ready to learn more about Linux
The use of the Cisco NetAcad curriculum combined with the use of JCCC’s virtual machines caused a lot of confusion. It seemed that a lot
of time was wasted trying to modify steps from the assignments to make them work for the virtual machines.

IT 247-376 Spring 21:  202101-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks

IT 209-376 Spring 21: 202101-Scaling_Networks

At times, professor Al-Rawi makes mistakes while working through labs. This bothered me at first, but actually is fairly helpful considering
mistakes will always be made and this gives good practice in going back to find out what went wrong and correct the problem.

He was very quick with getting our assignments graded and responding to emails.
Professor Al-Rawi is a very fast grader and responds very quickly to emails

I liked that we went over the labs during class so we could go over any issues that we encountered

Very structured and informative!

IT 201-377 Spring 21: 202101-Network_Security_Fundamentals

Canvas course needs to be organize. Lots of extra material. Have to search for what I need too much.

During his online presentations, the professor was very negative. In one of his early lectures, he asked if there were any questions. When
there was no response, he stated “No one cares about this subject”.

At certain times in during the semester, I ran into problems in the labs that I could not resolve on my own. In every case, my attempts to
get help from the professor were met with polite e-mails agreeing that there is a problem but providing no guidance as to how to fix it.
While there are still several weeks left in this class and I have maintained an A up until this point, I do not believe I am equipped to pass
the final tests, let alone apply any of the concepts from this class in a professional environment.
class time is 90% going over homework 10% lecture. As a student would prefer the time to be 90% lecture 10% homework. I can do the
homework on my own I would prefer time spent in class going over the chapter material

I realize that there is a language barrier between me and the instructor (and probably a cultural one, as well). Even with those facts in
mind, I found this class to be an entirely negative experience. The lab information we were supplied with was riddled with errors;
assignments and due dates were changed without notice; portions of the canvas site, including links to class critical software such as the
VPN were blocked from access, and poor or missing instructions, such as which lab to use in order complete assignments (there were two
full sets of lab topologies and the professor switched back and forth between them arbitrarily, and often without communicating when he
did so), made this class easily the worst experience I have had at JCCC.

IT 175-376 Spring 21: 202101-Cybersecurity_Fundamentals

There is too much information or extra links listed each week in the modules. Providing better titles for materials might also help. Might
help to clean up the main landing page of the Canvas course.

Mr Al-rawi respond to email any time, it doesn’t matter when I email. I get response under 10mins.
The instructor was good at getting our assignment graded in a timely manner.
The time to answer email is always quick and concise. No question has gone unanswered.

I liked that we went over the Labs in class because it helped a lot.

Thank you for teaching us this year… You have been great help!
This is class that provides a great deal of value to the entire program, as it is taught. It draws on experiences from other classes but also
teaches those skills along the way.
it was good

IT 239-376 Spring 21: 202101-Ethical_Hacking

Mr Al-Rawi is very patient, and takes the time to properly explain concepts and answer any questions related to course materials in a way
that is easy to understand and translate into useable skills.
Syllabus is clear, a good example for others to follow.
Note that material, labs in this case, that were created locally by instructor or department, were far superior in content than NDG in most
cases. Went above and beyond to provide best material even if it needed created first.

Decent human being, always.

Always a solid communicator
Professor Al-Rawi is fantastic at answering emails in a reasonable time.

Very hands on and is willing to guide all students through every project and answer questions. Great learning atmosphere.

Again, some of the pre-packaged curriculum lacks the clarity and effectiveness of that made by instructor or department head. It is a
subject that moves faster than NDG and therefore it is fantastic that new labs have been created and incorporated for better learning.
Because of this certification is much closer for students interested in that.
I appreciate everything that mr Al-Rawi has done for me over the course of my academic career at JCCC, and he has been one of the best
teachers that I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable and is able to teach the material at any level. I would highly recommend him
to any student that has an interest in IT or Cyber Security at JCCC

IT 140-377 Fall 20: 202008-Networking_Fundamentals_(202008_81235_IT_140_377)

Even with massive amounts of studying, it is extremely difficult to pass any of the exams, considering that many of the answers to the questions do not reflect what we learned in the modules, though thankfully this can easily be overlooked by the fact that the exams in this class are worth such a small portion of your overall grade.

He is very clear in teachings. I am looking forward to be in his class again next semester.

Overally good.

The instructor speaks very slowly, which can be annoying for some people (including myself), but I can understand why this is necessary for others, so I appreciate it nonetheless. Aside from that, the instructor is very helpful, especially because he allows the students to ask questions during the lectures, which are streamed live on Zoom (as they should always be) and which discuss both the textbook and the homework extensively. Brilliant professor that I would highly recommend to more students who would like to take this course.

Even on weekends he response very well.

It can sometimes take the professor several days to grade assignments, but I can imagine that he has a lot more to do than just grading assignments in this class, so I am willing to accept that.

Mr. Al-Rawi was very responsive, which I very much appreciated.

Aside from the ineffective modules as the only means to study for exams that you will always fail regardless, my professor in this class is amazing all the way around, especially considering that I don’t even think the module problem is all his fault.

Overally good.

the use of the lockdown browser is incredibly useless and a waste of time

IT 209-376 Fall 20: 202008-Scaling_Networks_(202008_81252_IT_209_376)

Discussions, People, Pages, Conferences, and Collaborations are pages that serve no purpose and should be removed. All assignments and exams should be visible from the modules page, making the Assignments page redundant. Announcements page could be more useful if integrated into the modules page. Modules are organized by week, yet the contents of the modules are organized by chapter, even if the assignments in that chapter are due on different weeks. If you put a link on a specific assignments page, then you don’t need toput one in the module too. I appreciate the effort to make certain things as available as possible, but it just feels cluttered.

The instructor’s method of teaching is effective, but slightly conflicts with my method of learning. Instructor feedback doesn’t really apply when the assignments consist of lab scenarios with step by step instructions.

This course could benefit from prerecorded lectures of the chapter concepts, especially if they included the instructors personal insight sinto the content and how it relates to the real world industry

IT 247-350 Fall 20: 202008-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks_(202008_81265_IT_247_350)

Professor Al-Rawi is exceptional at responding to my questions and helping me understand areas that I find challenging.

New lab equipment meant that some of the labs needed to be updated. I appreciated that Professor Al-Rawi took the time to make the updates and post notices about any changes we needed to know.

IT 239-376 Fall 20: 202008-Ethical_Hacking_(202008_81263_IT_239_376)

I always enjoy Akram classes, he a bit straight forward but he is very clear about what he expects or what needs to be done.

This teacher uses a pre setup that obviously isn’t thought through.

First lecture in the other class from this teacher was spent scolding students because they werent answering instantly when zoom chat was on mute.

He would email me back within minutes sometimes.

There is no communication whatsoever.

I could ve gotten this infomation from youtube. And the last 3 weeks of this class was assignments from the security + class. I’m glad I’mforced to pay twice for the same recycled infomation.

Great teacher

I feel like the labs didn’t coincide with the textbook reading, like they weren’t in order. I think the labs and textbook need to come from the same source so that the labs are used to reinforce what the textbook covers for those chapters. Otherwise I thought the class was good

It’s obvious there is very little effort put into this course. Not to mention the teacher is incredibly unflexible during a pandemic.

Professor Akram Al-Rawi is very efficient when it comes to teaching the material, giving feedback and answering questions. I have taken many online courses from him and always know what is expected of me. He provides many hands on assignments that help build the muscle memory needed to quickly complete an assignment but also provides assistance with configurations. He is also very quick to diagnose issues with labs and to help his students be able to correctly complete labs

IT 231-376 Fall 20: 202008-Linux_Administration_(202008_81260_IT_231_376)

The course quality was likely degraded due to the unusual and forced medium of teaching. I am fairly sure that in a correct class room environment, the instructor could teach more actively and effectively.

The instructor is very active and focused on helping us learn the material in this class. I think he does a great job of explaining material and keeping the whole class engaged during the Zoom class sessions.

IT 140-351 Summer 20: 202006-Networking_Fundamentals_(202006_60145_IT_140_351)

My professor treated me wonderfully and was understanding about everything going on.

IT 140-352 Summer 20: 202006-Networking_Fundamentals_(202006_60146_IT_140_352)

I never asked how I was doing, but sure he would tell me.

For online classes I prefer youtube videos instead of zoom calls. It can be difficult to join zoom calls and with shorter videos that I can
speed up the playback speed on I get through things at my own pace.

This is a summer course and very compacted. If the student completes and submits the assignment before the course terms, I believe
they should received the credit of the work produced. This not an easy class, it does take time and dedication to sit down and not just learn
but understand the information. Completing the work to me shows motivation and determination. It should not be based on the fact the
work was submitted via comments, that’s a negative impact on the student when they are already doing their best to keep up. Other than
that, the class is awesome, I learned how to calculate a subnet and that has been my highlight.

IT 247-376 Spring 20:

information put on canvas is not organized it is thrown into modules with very little discription. Then documents themselves are not
readable they are words in lines and symbols all put together with no readable organization. Makes information uptake very difficult. to the
point I wasn’t able to use the docs and pursued other resources to try and learn the components of this course.

the instructor is very respectful but again the material organization on canvas is what is motivation my response to 2.1

Instructor is great. There are some interesting programs that supplement these courses that we just gloss over zenmap, snmp gui. I get it,
it’s cisco focused but it would be nice to have a little more information on other programs and hardware related to networking.

IT 209-376 Spring 20: 202001-Scaling_Networks_(202001_10184_IT_209_376)

Instructor didn’t add much value to the course. Could have just read the chapters and did the cisco assignments and not miss out on
anything. Overall good.
The course’s class time can be difficult to follow along with at times due to lack of engagement and difficulty understanding spoken words.
Overall the class is efficient from an online standard and it’s easy to grow.

IT 231-376 Spring 20: 202001-Linux_Administration_(202001_10197_IT_231_376)

Mr Al-Rawi has been an amazing professor to work with this semester, and continues to provide excellent instruction and assistance
during the course of this class. He has made learning the subject matter easy, and treats his students fairly and with respect. He is one of
the best teachers/professors I have ever had while attending any sort of school. I would recommend him to anyone pursuing any career in
IT
The skill assessments were tricky and confusing. But the class overall was enjoyable.

IT 175-350 Spring 20: 202001-Cybersecurity_Fundamentals_(202001_10179_IT_175_350)

Mr Al-Rawi has been a huge positive influence for me, as i complete the curriculum for the JCCC Cyber Security Certificate. He has
always been a huge help, always answers emails or questions quickly and accurately, and makes it a point to interact with students on a
level basis. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I would recommend him to anyone who is pursuing any career in IT.

IT 201-376 Spring 20: 202001-Network_Security_Fundamentals_(202001_10180_IT_201_376)

This teacher has treated my friend with some of the most blatant disrespect I have ever seen coming from a teacher, much less a college
professor. After learning about this my friend and I chose not to come to optional class periods until the required day of the final because
we had other things that required our attendance and figured since attendance in this class is optional we could not show up. But since the
Corona Pandemic that has gladly changed. This seemed to have started the last class we had with him. My friends mother had apparently
made plans for seeing a family member in the military without his knowledge. My friend had talked with him about not being at class until
the final which was how long she had planned to be away. He came back for the final and all seemed fine. Until class had ended and the
next semester had started, I did not have classes in the same building as the class we had with this teacher, but my friend did. Every time
they would run into each other my friend seemed to describe the teacher looking at him with a death stare. Then when this class started
the first week, already running into problems with the teachers cooperation and respect. Not laying out instructions in a clear manner, not
seeming to reply to questions, almost avoiding questions. When I ask him questions he seems to think that everyone in his class shows up
and is hard to get any kind of sympathy out of when I don’t show up for class even though it is optional, so when there is a problem with
homework the most typical response I get from him is. “We did this in class” and it takes a long chain of emails for him to answer
questions. Ignorance for problems that pop up or problems with homework that my friend cannot get answered but I can easily. I have a
few examples of this. But my friend got so fed up with the teachers crap he ended up dropping the class, which I can’t blame him for. If
someone bothers to read this all the way through I will be happy to let my friend talk about this, if he is comfortable with it.

Him commenting on my assignments every time that I did a good job is pointless, if I see a speech bubble next to a assignment I assume
he has something to tell me something important, and if my assignment doesn’t have everything in it he will state the obvious and not give
me any hints on how I can fix it.

The course is ok, I have my own issues with Cisco Networking classes for a whole other reason. The reason I put poor is simply because
of the teacher he is awful.

IT 140-381 Spring 20: 202001-Networking_Fundamentals_(202001_10175_IT_140_381)

Detailed syllabus is followed perfectly. There is no mystery where grades come from.
Fun class, it is organized throughout all the modules so if you want to get ahead of the class you can keep learning

Grades assignments within a day or 2 of submission.
Grading is done promptly allowing student to know standing. Emails are returned promptly and questions are always answered. This
professor is available during office hours and beyond to his students.

All is straight forward. Have never left a class with a lack of understanding of day’s lessons.

It is an ideal learning environment

IT 247-350 Fall 19: 201908-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks_(201908_80372_IT_247_350)

Best professor I’ve ever had !!
class is all through net academy. there are seemingly random labs assigned that don’t really match up with the chapter we are studying. I
felt like I was supposed to have all the material from previous classes memorized with zero review despite the fact I hadn’t taken a cisco
class in a year or so due to other prereqs.

final times in the syallbus were incorrect. but thank goodness because they said 8:30pm.

interaction with the instructor is minimal. no discussions, no participation, just read the chapter and do the labs/quizzes

Very fast at responding to emails.
i guess saying “good job” or telling me what I did wrong in as few of words possible counts. I didn’t like sending email to the instructor.

I didn’t learn anything from the instructor. Honestly he’s just there to grade the assignments I guess. Should automate that process.

Hands down the worst class I’ve ever taken. Right off the bat we are given labs with no review. I took time off in between cisco courses as I
had other classes to take, so I was rusty. But expected to know so much right off the bat and I felt like he was short with me when I asked
why the labs given aren’t related to the reading material at all. We probably had 15 labs on ACL’s this semester but a huge part of the final
was eigrp ipv6 protocol. that isn’t covered in the course material at all. I came home and searched eigrp in the netacad and there wasn’t
any chapters covering it. I bombed the skills final because that was a huge part of it and I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work, to no
avail. The final was a joke, relying on screenshots to grade…I can’t believe it. I ran out of time to get all screenshots in to even try to get
partial credit on my final. But if one part doesn’t work, the rest of it won’t either. When is anyone going to have to config an entire network
in 2 hours? This isn’t preparing me for anything in IT and I should know because I have a job in it already. That final is 24% of our grade
and covers material not covered in the class. How is this possible? I didn’t realize this class was comprehensive and that should be made
known up front. I had to search through a completely disorganized canvas page to find a word document that described what was going to
be on the final, and I didn’t even find it until the night before.
I’m sure a lot of things will be chalked up to my fault but go look at his canvas file section. It’s ridiculous. Also he gave us 5 assignments
thanksgiving week. I have a full time job and 2 kids. the amount of work I’ve spent on this class just to bomb the final because I was
unprepared is very disheartening and demoralizing. If I’m going to spend 12 hours a week approximately, which I did, at least give me a
final that is over what the material covers. He says each chapter takes 6 hours to read. That’s true. then we have 3 labs and 2 quizzes on
top of that, the work load is insane. I’ve got A’s and B’s in every class I’ve taken at JCCC and it will be a miracle if I get a C out of this. They
need to take a serious look at this course and teacher, especially that final.
By the way, 2 in person finals for an online class? and why is one so much weighted over the other? I would argue understanding the
concepts behind the material is more important than being able to config a network from memory and screenshot the whole thing in 2
hours is. Go look at how many screenshots just the routing section of that final required. Its like 12 screenshots. that takes time. Flush it
down the drain, start over.

He went above and beyond to assist me in understanding the material. I would recommend this instructor to anyone looking to expand
their knowledge IT knowledge about Cisco command line.
No reason to take this class online. I could of watched these videos and done this homework without paying for a class online. Zero teacher involvement

IT 209-376 Fall 19: 201908-Scaling_Networks_(201908_80352_IT_209_376)

not always the most logical

hes a great guy but his teaching style isn’t the best, VERY dry and hard to relate too

I taught myself the course material

I was a little disappointed that we never had any hands on time with the routers and switches in class. Everything is done in netlab. Almost
everything is neatly laid out in the syllabus about what we are doing and when it is due. That is very helpful. A 10 minute break would be
nice in between class, 2 hours- it is hard to pay attention sometimes.

no doubt he knows his stuff but you can’t teach at a phD level to 3rd semester students

IT 175-376 Fall 19: 201908-Cybersecurity_Fundamentals

The course materials (Book, labs) have numerous errors; The lab materials haven’t been proofread and many quiz and test questions are
ambiguous or wrong. The amount of classroom instruction time provided by the College is less than the credit hours (Hybrid online is the
most classroom time offered), which reduced the scope of the course, and accelerated the pace of classroom instruction.

This class was the most mind numbing, class I have ever taken.

The professor was conveniently available for office visits.
There have been a few times this semester that the professor would ignore my questions or ignore my emails for 2 or 3 days.

For Section 4.1, I chose Disagree because when we submit our lab screenshots in Canvas, the only comment I’ve gotten is Good Job
(This could of course be that I’ve scored 100% on each lab). It would be nice to get just a little more feedback, maybe even suggesting a
review of harder parts of the lab to better understand the material.

I have no idea what I’m learning with the labs. They don’t make sense. Thank God they we’re step by step. This class is an easy A
because it’s all busy work.

I personally would have preferred more time on the course material and less time on labs. But he communicated clearly at the begining of
the year he had made this change in response to last semester’s students expressing he should spend more time on labs. So I understand
the predicament!

Sometimes it is difficult to remember all the acronyms used in IT and particularly in security. How to mitigate a compromised machine and
how to read real logs, what do they look like what would we be looking for if we worked in this field.
The lectures aren’t lectures. We spend 3 hours going through the Labs due that week and if we have time he will give us the answers to
the exams. This class needs to be purely online. The professor speaks in monotone and his walk-throughs on the labs are just as dull. If

I’m paying money to take these classes, buy the book, drive to the school and pay somebody to watch my children, I should be able to
walk out of class some retained information at the end of the semester.

Professor Akram always followed up with my questions after class. He was very easy to meet with for any help.

For a server administration class, the material was mostly good. However, the examples in some labs missed the mark for me, for example
setting up a virtual printer using a parallel port instead of the actual class printer, or using outdated text-mode email software, or managing
users one at a time instead of through a database application.

IT 140-376 Summer 19: 201906-Networking_Fundamentals_(201906_60161_IT_140_376)

Prof. Al-Rawi is the best! He is aware that some of his students are absolutely brand new to the IT world and that he has some that are so
advanced that they are taking this class for an easy A. He allowed the advanced students to go at their own pace and always asked the
class if we had any questions, are we learning anything new (in a comical manner), and if we needed help with anything. Not only that, but
the Prof. was always available after class to assist and help with any other questions that we had. He’s one of the best teachers that I have
ever had.

Prof. Al-Rawi Answers his emails in a very timely manner.

The Professor is excellent by nature and highly knowledgeable with material. However, due to the amount of information crammed into one
class, the Professor was unable to spend time clarifying some missed applications in class. This deemed to be extremely tasking and
difficult to keep up.

I am truly grateful for Prof. Al-Rawi! i am brand new to the IT field and also am a slow learner. I knew sometime I would frustrate the Prof
with my incomprehension, but he was always long-suffering and patient with me. Always help me find the answer or answered my
questions, no matter if it was the same one for almost a week. Haha. He is the complete opposite of the female Linux teacher I had but
that is for another day. Prof. Al-Rawi is the best!

IT 140-379 Spring 19: 201901-Networking_Fundamentals_(201901_11298_IT_140_379)

Instructor packs class time full so questions are limited, however he makes point to have an announcement every week encouraging us to
send questions to him via canvas, it is a hybrid class.

He makes grades available immediately online

This is are very difficult course to learn as a new student,I really needed 2 class a week not 1

this class should be offered inm traditional classroom setting twice a week. It is too hard for a hybrid class for someone new needing an
intro class

IT 201-376 Spring 19: 201901-Network_Security_Fundamentals_(201901_11305_IT_201_376)

All subject matter and class expectations were clearly covered in the beginning of this course.

Dr. Al-Rawi was always open to elaborating on difficult subjects and made every effort to make sure that each class was productive.
Professor Al-Rawi is very accommodating in helping students learn and be successful in class. He always followups on questions asked
and even provides insight on his own research and experience to address student’s questions.

Dr. Al-Rawi has on many occasions assisted me and other students in a very timely fashion; sometimes same day. He was also always
attentive to our classes needs when we struggled with certain concepts.

Having the privileged to attend Dr. Al-Rawi’s network security course has afforded me great benefit in furthering my knowledge in regards
to network security. I personally find it troubling that other students would not take advantage of the knowledge he has to offer, because he
always went above to make sure that the integrity of the curriculum matched what should be taught.
Thank you for all of the time, work, and wisdom, that I had the good fortune to attend your classes.

Take this professor for this class and other cisco classes. He does an awesome job and knows what he is doing. Also good for linux
classes if you wanted to get a better idea of what linux does and can do!

IT 247-376 Spring 19: 201901-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks_(201901_11326_IT_247_376)

I would suggest not having assignments due the week of the skills assessment, so students can focus more on preparing for the
assessment, rather than finishing up assignments.

IT 231-376 Spring 19: 201901-Linux_Administration_(201901_11322_IT_231_376)

Dr. did very well and would prefer him to be an instructor in my future classes
Great Teacher
Some times all over the place with material.
The difference between the instructions and the class environment can be confusing, especially when you miss a day in class. (name
difference/different folder or file names)

Helpful when we ask questions
Sometimes feel like we’re not good enough making comments like ‘wasted 20 mins’ makes me feel very nervous and not welcomed.
The Dr. did an amazing job and I expected myself to drop the class or fail, but the Dr. always answered emails quickly and efficiently, as
well as, stayed after class to help students instead of just running out the door.

He always grades assignments in a timely manner, I’m pleased .
very quick to get back to emails. Sometimes can’t understand he’s English.

His English on several things was very hard to understand and made my grade lower, even after asking for clarification.

Couldn’t ask for a better professor. Glad he is my teacher.
I feel this class could be better with a TA to read over things before we get them for clarification.
I hope the Dr. enjoys the class as much as I did as a student!

Learned a lot this semester

Akram is always a great instructor, he’s extremely organized and you always know what to expect from him and what he expects of you.
These courses have a ton of information packed into the time allowed but he does an excellent job of keeping on a schedule and going
over the material.
This guy knows what he is doing! I would take him since he will help you with anything and i mean anything

he does his best when it comes to answering emails and any questions regarding the labs and assignments you have for the class.

he does a good job when it comes to teaching and how to do the labs right and what to do in case something doesn’t work the way it
should in the labs.

this professor is one of my favorite professors for a linux class, he is one of the funniest professors next to jerry that i have had. he didnt
tell me to say that and i didnt get extra credit for it either.

Dr. Al-Rawi has a very structured curriculum. I’ve taken several classes from him over the past couple of years and I’ve retained a lot of
the information due to his organization, and delivery. I’ve even noticed myself becoming more organized because of his style of teaching. I
highly recommend taking his classes.

IT 239-376 Fall 18:  201808-Ethical_Hacking_(201808_82537_IT_239_376)-1e5ykln

Providing the opportunity for more hands on learning in class would be more beneficial rather than going through the labs and quizzes

A more open environment for penetration testing would help instead of using netlab. Perhaps it would be possible to use an isolated
VMware environment emulating the netlab material but with more current methodologies; throw on seperate VLAN, completely isolate it,
make it so no traffic can leave the “lab” areas.

Walking through the labs were not the most effective way to teach the subject, activities that encouraged critical thinking that the labs did
not give us would have been more beneficial to learn the material

Class consists of going through labs that we already do for homework and are laid out already enough. Material in book is complex but
never brought up in class.

I really liked this class and learned a lot. Doctor Al-Rawi did a great job explaining the assignments and the objectives. I think this is the
first class that I have actually read the entire text book, and retained a lot of the information. I will recommend this class to other students
interested in an IT career

The instructor is cool and i did learn how hackers think i guess. My only complaint is that the material is out dated. Its not useful if people
arent using the same type of systems in the industry today. In class We are using windows xp pro and windows 7? Like really ? Nobody
uses that software anymore because its obsolete, not even hackers. And on top of that we are also using backtrack 5. Backtrack 5!!!!! that
company no longer exists!!!!!. The fact of the matter is we are learning with tools that are no longer prevalent or relevant in the work
industry. My brother has a masters and he is a security analyst and he can back up the fact that nobody uses this crap anymore.
Suggestion Cali linux would be nice wtf ?!. I feel like i got ripped off for jccc selling me an outdated education.

Very helpful and willing to answer questions in class as well.

A bit fast paced for a summer class in my opinion. (Note: This course was offered as one meeting per week for 2 hours and 50 min)

IT 247-376 Spring 18: 201801-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks_(201801_12198_IT_247_376)-1o85j39

He always invites students to ask him questions after every discussion. He allows you to speak even if you interrupt him. He never use any
strong language.

He will send you an email to make you know how you are doing in the class. He will also give you a feedback when you submit an
assignment. He will research and provide more information from external sources

Al-Rawi is an excellent teacher and will take another class with this instructor. Will recommend him to my friends

Professor Al-Rawi does a great job of providing instruction and immediately following it with practical applications and direct assistance on
lab-work. There are even moments where he finds very useful additional material to supplement lessons and I found these very helpful in
becoming a more skilled technician. I would recommend taking his courses as he does a great job of ensuring the Cisco material is
presented very thoroughly.

Very disorganized class
he give us the syllabus in the beginning of the semester

The environment was the instructor was learning as we were learning.
he was an excellent professor

he was given us our grades on time

I love his teaching methods

Very disappointed with class. Studied the wrong material for the first skill exam for this class since the operating systems are different
from what is in Net Academy and I worked all semester to catch back up. I received a B in the class but I would like a refund of my money.

This is my favorite teacher. hes very patient and will answer any questions.

My grades were always put in the next day and he gets back to you very quickly

hes shifts his teaching strategy with the needs of the class so we can learn best

Dr. Al-Rawi is an excellent instructor. I realize that this is an introductory course, but I enjoyed the Dr. Al-Rawi’s discussions, the access to
the laboratory equipment, the tools supplied by Cisco, and the structure of the course. Having someone as knowledgeable and organized
as Dr. Al-Rawi as an instructor is a distinct advantage in a beginning course. I also found the lab tutor, Nick Meisenhelter, to be very
helpful and encouraging.
Networking isn’t something that interests me but i really liked the teacher

Some labs seemed to be haphazardly tossed into different sections, but I’m told this is due to there being so little homework in the actual
Cisco curriculum.

Dr. Al-Rawi is one of the best instructors I’ve had when it comes to teaching and being dedicated to the students, not only in class but at
the school in general.

Gives the most feedback out of any instructor I’ve had in any area of study.

Was grateful when I ran into issues considering certain labs and troubleshooting. He was very helpful and even worked late into the night
with me to insure the issue is addressed. Very appreciative.

Dr. Al-Rawi will help any student having difficulty with the curriculum.

Helps immensely when comments are left on the drop box so I may go back to address any issues he found with my labs. Reinforces my
learning experience with the material.

Fantastic teacher. Will continue to look to take courses with him in the future.
Really good class. Felt like I learned a lot from it. Akrim was a great instructor and really nice guy. Was well prepared and covered the
material very well. Thanks

IT 239-376 Fall 17: 201708-Ethical_Hacking-yx9cxl

Very straightforward

Answers all questions, in class and through email. Promotes class participation.
Excellent instructor
there should be problems for students to solve. The teacher is following a course line, but everything is “digested” for students, meaning
do this, now do that…. there should give us at least one problem for us to solve.

Grades are known throughout semester very quickly
He is wonderful

Did well on all homework, professor was very supportive

The instructor used the labs to instruct during class. I do not think this was the most efficient use of his obvious knowledge. There were a
few times that Mr. Al-Rawi went off topic and instructed us in real world situations. These were very enjoyable and it was incredibly obvious
& insightful. It demonstrated to me that he knew his material backwards and forwards. I really wish he would have done more lecturing/
instruction during the class. The times he shared his personal analysis of real world situations was incredibly helpful. I’ve realized during
this class that part of being a security person is knowing how the bad guy thinks and more of Mr Al-Rawi personal experience mixed in with
lecturing would have been incredibly helpful. I did really enjoy the times he shared with us these stories or things that he had read and it
helped to shape my understanding of what a security person should be.

Akrim was a great instructor. Extremely knowledgeable and very well prepared for class. Very nice guy and enjoyed the class. The only
problem I had was the O/S we were hacking into are no really around anymore. Windows 2003 and XP are very out dated.

The instructor walks through the labs in class. I feel that class time would be better used for more than walking through labs. I would like
more lecture on infosecurity topics and current events. There was really no need to go to class in person since labs and materials were
online. I wish class time could have been more useful.

This course was probably the most interesting of the IT courses, hopefully it develops into a more robust curriculum.

IT 231-376 Fall 17: 201708-Linux_Administration_(201708_82427_IT_231_376)(6)-1tjpwrj

I really appreciate how you have everything laid out by date. It makes it very easy to make sure I get my homework done.

Instructor Tim Golden gave instructor Akram Al-Rawi Linux teaching materials to use that were filled with mistakes, misspellings and
errors. Instructor Akram Al-Rawi did a great job of teaching the class and correcting all of Tim Goldens mistakes

It is unbelievable how patient you are. I always feel I can ask any question. When something goes wrong in the lab, you take the time to
not only fix the issue, but explain what happened.

As I stated before, it blows me away the fact you will fix any issue you come across in the lab, and then explain the why and the how.

Too much time is spent on labs during class in my opinion. I mostly do the labs outside of class , especially in these ‘hybrid’ classes.
The labs are pretty straightforward and we are given step by step directions. So I would rather spend class time going over core concepts
rather than following a lab manual.

I am very fortunate having you as a professor. Your level knowledge astonishes me and inspires me to work to hard.
I would love to take instructor Akram Al-Rawi for other classes in the future.

IT 209-350 Fall 17: 201708-Scaling_Networks_(201708_82415_IT_209_350)-15hpmdp

I always feel I can ask a question.

I really like your teaching style

A lot of this cisco course can be learned online. Its a good class for ‘self-teaching’ which is good if you are working and going to school

I enjoyed the opportunity to learn under Professor Al-Rawi and felt his lecture style combined with excellent demonstrations of the material
throughout was extremely beneficial in cementing the important skills we were expected to learn. I am looking forward to taking another
course that he teaches as I am confident it will be just as fulfilling in learning these critical networking skills. A huge thank-you to Professor
Al-Rawi for answering questions and helping the class out with difficult assignments.

You are very patient. Your knowledge is amazing. I learned a lot from your class. It has been 2 years + since my last Cisco Class and I am
not sure I would have caught up and been successful in a different class.

IT 247-376 Summer 17: 201706-Accessing_Wide_Area_Networks_(201706_60221_IT_247_350)-10u8jop

The structure of this course is perfect
With the class being online, having two copies of the same assignment, with only one of the being the correct one, is extremely confusing.

Again, with it being online, Mr. Al-Rawi was surprisingly quick to respond to my concerns/questions. He was always there to answer when
I procrastinated.

Instructor: Akram Al-Rawi does an excellent job. I took on allot of responsibilities this term and struggled as a result
Online course but have to go into the college to take finals. We take online courses for a reason

IT 140-376 Summer 17: 201706-Networking_Fundamentals_(201706_60213_IT_140_376)-1b5a493

Professor Al-Rawi never encouraged students to participate in-class, but there were not many opportunities in class for student
involvement besides one lab activity that involved making your own ethernet cable. But at the beginning of class he would always ask
students if they had any questions.

Provides helpful feedback when you do something wrong on an assignment.

The only issue that I had with this class is when it came time for subnetting, there should be more time devoted to this subject and maybe
go a little slower. I understand that this was a summer course and they go fast but this was the hardest and very important part of the
class.

Good communication
I’m not sure there is a better way to format the class, but it can be confusing knowing exactly what is going on all the time.
Online is tougher.
The best and excellent teacher

He teaches very well and presents the material such that any student can uderstand
I don’t know if any CMS/VLS will ever be very conducive for learning. Brick and mortar classes will always be the best way to learn.
This is an online class, to my knowledge this is true
This was an online class, but any time I had question the professor was always available to explain things and answer questions. Great,
very respectful and always helpful professor.

Akram Al-Rawi is great about answering e-mails, I work Nights, He has been great about answering my e-mails even when I’ve

Great course, it is obvious the instructor really cares that his students perform well
Great online class for my busy schedule.
No matter how confident I am that I’ve done my assignments, I always feel like there is something I’m missing. This might be the nature of

Good class environment – instructor has no problem with people interrupting with questions and is always patient with responses

Instructor always responds to emails quickly and is available and happy to answers questions in person if in his office; very appreciated

Would prefer to stick with just the NDG course as opposed to using D2L and NDG for testing – it gets confusing.

With Linux, experimentation is more key to learning how to do things – I don’t feel that the weekly labs did much good. Some labs weren’t
effective, some didn’t work well. The confusion between the lab environment and our environment (different distributions and versions,
different users, etc) didn’t really work. Also, just speeding through the lab and taking screenshots along the way didn’t help much. It
seems like it would be better to have weekly projects (like the 3 projects we did) in addition (or in place of) the labs themselves. That way
we don’t just “click here and do this” we have to figure out how to do something.

I think that I would prefer going over projects and seeing practical applications of things rather than walking through the week’s lab. This
semester, it seemed like there wasn’t much to be talked about during class unless it was the lab.

Overall, appreciated the professor’s willingness to help and his knowledge on the subject.

IT 140-377 Fall 16: 201608-networking_fundamentals_201608_82521_it_140_377

Instructor tends to rush through everything on a very rigid timetable. While he’ll stop for questions he’s constantly letting you know how
much time over you have used of his original plan. Add to that an accent that can be thick occasionally it makes you not want to ask
questions on things you may not have understood in order to not get behind on his schedule

IT 209-377 Fall 16: 201608-scaling_networks_201608_83138_it_209_377

Mr. Al-Rawi is awesome

IT 247-350 Fall 16: 201608-accessing_wide_area_networks_201608_82552_it_247_350

Dr. Al-Rawi goes out of his way to clearly communicate his expectations to students in a timely and professional fashion.

Dr. Al-Rawi expertly motivates students to learn and succeed.
There wasn’t a component for classroom participation but the instructor always encouraged me to email him with questions, comments, or
observations. Much appreciated in an online class.

Dr. Al-Rawi is the hardest working professor I have ever had the pleasure of studying under. He is also the most prompt professor I have
ever had in terms of grading and responding to emails. I have had dozens of professors over the years so this is no small order.
Instructor was always very quick to respond, sometimes within a few minutes. Very much appreciated in an online class.

In this case, there wasn’t much of a component for the instructor to teach – it was almost entirely based on the online curriculum. To that
end, instructor feedback and pointers were very helpful.
The notes included in the content and dropbox sections of D2L really help make the most of the meaterials at Cisco’s NetAcad website.
The overall course instruction was excellent.
The teacher is very engaged and helpful when questions arise. This is, however, an online course and the curriculum is rigidly set. Being
as online was the only version of this class offered, I can’t make a good comparison. I do know that online classes aren’t my preferred way
of taking them.
Also, I think it would be better to adopt an either / or approach to the testing. Either use Netacad academy OR the D2L environment but
not both. I also found it confusing understanding what assignments need to be done week to week and where they are supposed to be
submitted.

IT 247-376 Spring 16: 201601-accessing_wide_area_networks_201601_11815_it_247_376

Cisco curriculum is not conducive to learning in this course. The instructor also doesn’t utilize the canned curriculum well. He is a smart
guy, but not an effective teacher.

IT 140-386 Spring 16: 201601-networking_fundamentals_201601_13291_it_140_386

I feel as though he doesn’t create a atmosphere that gives one confidence in their learning experience because of the demeanor that he
has as far as when you ask questions and he answers with a tone of frustration and annoyance and it was like that since day one. It got to
the point where no one hardly ask questions (which seems as though that’s exactly what he wanted to be honest) because we didn’t want
to deal with his attitude as well tone as though we were suppose to learn this stuff on our own. I remember a situation with a student that
dropped the class shortly after the semester started as well as others because we all felt the same way about the instructor, where he
nervously asked where was he on the power point because we had all lost track and the instructor strongly said ” I don’t expect you guys
to keep up that’s why you do the homework”! We were all blown away with the comment as well as the instructor leaving quickly once the
class is over. He does sometimes ask if we need help and that is all the while he is moving to the door with his belongings under his arms
and exiting the class.

The course in itself seems to not be user friendly at all. I am a fulltime worker and school so I don’t have a whole lot of time to be at the
school for lab so therefore I have to download all the programs to my home computer and for this course there is like five programs to
download and when there is homework you are sometimes instructed to do a assignment that requires 2 to 3 programs to be open and
with the way that he teaches you have to figure out how to do it pretty much on your own time. Day one he instructed us on the programs
we would be using which is in the syllabus but he never like explained like hey if you have a problem downloading it you may have to take
this route. I know that we can email him but it isn’t the same as in person. He just give you the impression that he’s teaching a classroom
full of veteran networking students and that is not the case and discouragement is very much what me and the rest of the class has felt
when coming to class.

IT 140-383 Spring 15: 201501-networking_fundamentals_201501_11451_it_140_383

I’d probably be better off studying for the CCNA or even just the CCENT by buying a book and spending two hours reading it instead of coming to this class and listening to the most dry Powerpoint I’ve had to sit through. At the same time, most people chose this “online” class because we either work and/or have families we need to go home to and already had to make it possible to waste 2 hours a week on campus to be read a Powerpoint and have zero time to go to the lab to do some random homework assignment.

One thing I would have liked is if in the first assignment that the racks were used if we could have done that as one as a group to walk through and understand the set up. It wasn’t until around week 7 that I actually began to understand wiring the rack to get my connection so I could do my homework.

He’s disrespectful

Never told me how I was doing in the course..

Feedback is virtually useless. Needs to learn how to teach properly.

In the past course i had him i wasnt fair to him. It was my first cisco (or anything related to networking) class, also being a summer class it was very overwhelming. Having taken another class with him though and actually knowing what im doing, hes a wonderful teacher and a great help.

The course is interesting, the teacher is the problem.

very educative and practical cause. Learnt a lot of skills just short time to understand the material.

He knows the material so well that it’s hard for him to put it in simple terms so we as students can first grasp the new concept he is teaching us. Otherwise he is a great instructor. He listens, always open to help, and super patient which it makes you feel very comfortable.

Grades were kept in two locations, wasn’t sure what my true grade was until final exam.

Akram asks for questions, but only waits half a beat for anybody to speak up before quickly moving on.

He made learning difficult, when a question was asked it felt like I was imposing on his time schedule

He has a thick accent, his method of teaching was a struggle for me as well as others. Our class drop down to about 4 to 5 people

He uses a lot of the lab time as lecture time, which was not helpful at all.

This is a crazy hard class. I’m serious. I have 2 degrees, both with honors, and this is hands-down the hardest class I’ve ever taken. I can’t believe it is considered a fundamentals class. I feel like there should be prerequisite to this class.

IT 209-376 Fall 15: 201508-scaling_networks_201508_81383_it_209_376

The instructor follows the Cisco Canned Curriculum as well as he could

In class demonstrations are useful for explaining the curriculum, however the equipment was usually finicky or there were errors during setup that would prevent the in-class lab from working fully.

Improvements could be made, both in conveying more material and tying the material to applicable skills.

Communication was brief, probably our fault, never asked any questions or anything

I feel like that class started in a place where you needed at least some background in networking. I don’t have any, so the class was really hard for me. I thought it was going to be more of an introductory class. I was disappointed that I was expected to know so much information before going into the class

Instructor only reads powerpoints, had no real lecture of his own. I can read by myself

We did ask for help on a couple of things, and they made sense afterwards, so I guess so.

I do not feel as though I learned as much as I should have in the course. It was difficult for me to understand the new vocab the instructor was teaching me due to his accent. I understand English is not his first language, but it made the course incredibly difficult because I couldn’t understand most of what he said during the lecture. When I asked him for help though, he was always willing to stay after class and help me.

Not too bad, I learned what I wanted, and probably what I needed.

This course has a large amount of subject matter and would benefit from meeting twice a week for two hours instead of the current once per week for two hours. Especially as this is the introductory class and is highly technical and complex.

Al-Rawi presents the material in a way that is very easy to learn.

Very quick responses to emails and questions regarding the material and class.

Al-Rawi is an excellent instructor. He keeps the students engaged and conveys the material in a clear and straight forward manner. He has an accent that keeps your attention without being hard to understand.

IT 209-376 Fall 14: 201408-scaling_networks_201408_82293_it_209_376

matter of knowing grade with calculating the homework with the tests. wasn’t until midterm until everything was entered into D2L. then was updated every other week.

he is always applying feedback on homework. However, given that we have 1 visit when i was able to get homework done early waiting for response from him on what was wrong. usually took until the day of class, which could be too late if its a big homework assignment and or required to do at campus. faster response!!! Also, when working on weekends in lab; instead of having to rely on teacher for help would be nice if we had someone here to help with the Cisco material.

allow longer time in class….. I feel that we would be able to ask more questions about the new material and or homework

Often answers emails late at night in mere minutes.

Does not take shortcuts with learning, with no apologies to making it a bit harder. Have many college credits, one of my best instructors ever had.

While Akram is a great teacher and obviously knowledgeable in the subject, unfortunately his accent was difficult to understand at the beginning. Now that i have a solid understanding of most of the material, it isn’t as bad.

Akram is incredibly helpful especially for lab work, always just an email away and very responsive.

This is my second attempt of this course and have to say that I have learned 100 times more than my first attempt. Although Akram has a strong accent he communicates very well and is easy to understand.

Excellent instructor. Will give any amount of time to assist with questions. Always available in his office.

Excellent instructor.

Great hands on in class

This guy helped me a lot especially dealing with tom renfro’s class without him don’t think I would of understood this class or the special Topics

Akram has made this subject enjoyable, while being very tough and pushing you to learn. One of the best teachers I’ve ever had.

Great teacher deserves a raise goes above and beyond for students or anyone that has a question

There is not enough that can be said out this instructor. He is truly dedicated to teaching Cicso

IT 247-377 Spring 14: 201401-accessing_wide_area_networks_201401_12643_it_247_377

He’s a great teacher, he helps make sense of the twisted Cisco curriculum and the many errors Cisco makes.

He spends hours fixing Cisco lab errors so that we can do them. He’s very dedicated

He’s always available !!! He’s very helpful and will go step by step to make sure all bases are covered.

The teacher was great but the Cisco curriculum was just awful !! Errors upon errors , the quizzes are not clear the power points are not

clear and very wordy

IT 140-377 Spring 14: 201401-networking_fundamentals_201401_12610_it_140_377

For a 4 credit hour class I do not understand how just 2 hours a week for 16 weeks is enough to cover all the material required

Feedback is pretty automatic which is the only good thing I can say about this class.

Following Cisco Academy may be beneficial for those who want to get their Cisco Certs but trying to cover 11 chapters is 16 weeks is

IMPOSSIBLE. Not to mention the fact that while this class is considered an introductory course it is FAR FAR FAR from it.

Overall this is the best professor that I had so fair at JCCC, he is a ver understanding teacher and is always ready to help.

There should and needs to be at least 1 tutor that can help in this class.

This is by far the worst class I have taken here. I have learned nothing except for how to find the answers on Google. The class time is not long enough, not to mention you get 10 minutes to go over the hardware and that is it. Most of the labs have to be done outside of class time which makes it hard for someone like me who has an hour commute to school on way. I have to work my schedule around classes they host in the labs which means most of the time I can only get in on the weekend which is hard considered I work part time on the weekends. I knew nothing about networking when I stepped foot into the class but the way this course is taught they expect you to have basic knowledge already. THIS CLASS NEEDS A SERIOUS EVALUATION!!!

He answers emails or comes to the class within minutes!!!! Amazing

Cisco curriculum is full of errors and the professor takes hours to fix the issues so that we may learn properly. He has more knowledge than netacadamy

Doctor Alrawi is an excellent educator. Always available and eager to assist. A true asset.

IT 140-376 Fall 13: 201308-networking_fundamentals_201308_83076_it_140_376

He does a great job, even though the material is rushed and severely disorganized. He realizes this and does very good.

I think the networking class shouldn’t be a hybrid class, if anything make it a twice a week class for people who don’t catch on as fast.

Instructor Akram Al-Rawi goes out of his way to help students in his class. I’ve never had a question go unanswered.

Rushed for time he still takes time for questions. Good teacher.

Akram always emails within an hour or so and always grades quick even shows that he has looked over the assignment closely

Although the way the class is outlined and how it’s basically Cisco teaching me. I wish some knowledge could be learned outside of the modules.

Great professor, a larder to learn class but it’s not the professor’s fault mostly the way the program is outlined.

I’m glad I have Akram Al-Rawi as a teacher because he has vast knowledge on the material.

IT 140-377 Fall 13: 201308-networking_fundamentals_201308_83077_it_140_377

Mr. Al-Rawi has been treating us with respect and being very helpful and friendly. He has been available always for help and questions.

Mr. Al-Rawi has been answering my emails within minutes even on weekends. He is very passionate teaching and helping the students. He has been very professional. The grading was very fast. Just amazing. Thanks.

Although there is a lot of material and confusing terms on the Cisco curriculum, Mr. Al-Rawi has been able to summarize and extract the important information. This has been very important to understand the objectives of every chapter.

Mr. Al-Rawi has made an amazing job teaching us this new Cisco Curriculum. I don’t think the Cisco Curriculum matches the class time. There was a lot of material for just a class every week. I really encourage college to think about it. I felt like there was no enough time to cover all the materials. Even though Mr. Al-Rawi has been incredibly effective following the curriculum. Amazing work. I really enjoyed this class

Great teacher. Knows his stuff very well. Always responds to questions quickly

Akram is very organized. I loved that he has all the lessons already uploaded to Angel and all dates set. He really treats you as adults in the class and not like your in high school…other than being graded on attendance, which is sort of high school. Some people work for a living an generally can’t make every class and should not be penalized. He did said he had to do the attendance deal.

IT 140-377 Spring 13: 201301-networking_fundamentals_201301_12530_it_140_377

I think the instructor was no less than excellent. Also feel as though he really cared about students.

The material is old and outdated. I can tell Mr. Al-Rawi is a competent human being, and knows what he is doing, but I feel he does not translate it well into class.

IT 140-378 Fall 12: fall-2012-evaluations

Very good instructor

Know a lot of information

Very effective teacher

Very informative course

Course curriculum materials are hard to understand at no fault to the instructor.

Seriously, I don’t come to class to have my instructor rush through the homework he assign for that class period, look at “what is important for him “ and .

IT 140-376 Fall 12:  fall-2012-evaluations

Great Instructor, very easy to speak to and ask questions. Would take another course with him.

I found his teaching not very engaging but when we had real problems you could tell he knew what he was doing, then what he said make sense.

Great understanding of subject matter

Precise time management

Good job, wish he could slow down just a little

IT 247-377 Fall 12:

Akram is accessible and willing to help

He lets me know what was needing correcting and how to correct

It’s an awful lot of material to cover in a semester, but that’s beyond Akram’s control. I enjoy his classes.

Instructor is always willing to answer questions and help students when needed. Very respectful of students and others. Positive class environment!

IT 140-350 Spring 12: al-rawi-it-140-350-2

IT 140-352 Spring 12: al-rawi-it-140-352

He never let me know how I was doing in class. I had to rely on Angel to give me an idea of how I was doing.

He teaches the class very fast and will not stop so students can keep up.

There was no feedback at all from this instructor

I learned nothing from this instructor. Everything I learned was from my studies at home or from other students.

Class time would be more effective if we focused on subnetting procedures and how we achieve the result instead of reading the power point.

Akram is always available outside the class. Greatly appreciated.

#3 is pretty much non applicable.

I know so much more now!

Very happy I took this class.

IT 140-355 Spring 12: al-rawi-it-140-355

I really enjoy the large availability of office hours!

Rushing through power points not always helpful

Teaching is more effective when hands on.

Very nice and good office hours.

#11 I think the course content/material needs updated. It’s not really the teacher’s method, rather course material and way to teach it that need fixed.

He usually starts class before the time class is supposed to start.

He doesn’t go step by step on how to do subnetting. He just shows a few steps on the board and then he at the last step.

It is hard for me to understand him sometimes because of his accent. It would help if he slowed down when asked.

I didn’t appreciate my grades in cisco being shown to the entire class. Even if the class doesn’t know my ID.

IT 140-352 Fall 11: al-rawi-it-143-352-fall-11

The instructor does not take time to ensure understanding. Doesn’t present info at level of students who don’t have prior experience.

I have been unclear about my progress in class. I’m not confident I have learned what I’m supposed to, to be able to succeed in the IT program.

IT 140-350 Fall 11: fall-11-eval

Some class periods go over time.

We have to read a lot outside of class because we don’t have enough time in class.

Very responsive to email outside class. Always willing to help.

Very detailed and helpful with class materials and student questions.

I really enjoy Akram as an instructor.

IT 140-351 Fall 11: fall-11-eval

More interaction with the class would be nice-need to meet twice a week instead of one, to cover material.

More activities

May be bring students to the board

IT 140-353 Fall 11: fall-11-eval

As many weeks we studied over chap 6, he could have broken down each 172, 192 for subnets.

Very good teacher, knowledgeable and willing to take extra time outside of class to help.

Well-structured + helpful

Nice guy!

In my three intro classes (not just this one) they assume we know more than we do as stud. He moves quickly sometimes to get through the material, but he does so.

Adjusted the syllabus timeline to benefit the class as a whole

Could save the homework for actual “home” work and this would allow more time for the slides.

Does not always understand student’s questions.

The class is not as inter active as I would like

IT 247-351 Fall 11: fall-11-eval

I like him. Funny and smart!

He is available outside of class quite often

IT 140-13182  Spring 11: akram-13182  alrawisp11

As stated earlier, I found the material in this class to be very challenging. As a result, I question the wisdom of this course being offered in a hybrid format. I feel that more in-class time would be beneficial. Additionally, I found that the Cisco course materials aren’t good at pointing out what is essential information to know versus what is “trivial”. Very informative curriculum. It left me feeling very prepared for future education in the information technology field.

IT 140-253 Spring 11: akram-13180 alrawisp11

Sometimes end class late

Could be more value added beyond course materials

Not enough class time to cover material fully

With the amount of material I think we need 2 nights per week. 4hr class w/only 2 hour of class time.

IT 140-252 Spring 11: akram-13174 alrawisp11

I found this course to be extremely challenging but fun. Mr Al-Rawi certainly has mastered the information and does a great job conveying it. However, I think the course would benefit from meeting twice a week instead of once.

Wonderful teacher with great discipline for academics and high respect/expectations for students.

Sometimes there is more material than there is time for in the class. The instructor is contactable through email – easy, fast.

Always helpful with any questions.

He has graded my assignments almost instantly when I post them, which is a big relief compared to other instructors.

Cisco grade class quizzes

Not what I was looking for.

IT 140-250 Spring 11: alrawisp11

Instructor needs to use more real life examples.

IT 247-350 Spring 11: akram-11267  alrawisp11

Spend too much time on power points. Small P have highlighted information. Instructor spent too much time on labs doing basic setup which all should already know.

Always willing to help

Need do a better job setting through what is most important for the class or leaving it for student  to figure out.
