Personal Branding

So this week I made my LinkedIn page but it made me uncomfortable for the most part.  I don’t like being out there for the world to look up and see, I like being private. As you could see from my personal Facebook page I very rarely post and when I do it’s sharing something about a recipe or Veteran event and sometimes my kids.  I don’t believe in airing your issues on social media as some of my friends do and I know from experience when I was discussing this with the VP in my area that he does a social media search on everyone he is even thinking about interviewing and people have not gotten the job due to that search at times.  I am old enough to realize that if I wouldn’t want my mother to see something I definitely wouldn’t want a job or my current employer seeing it, which is why I keep it clean and “boring”.  So I don’t know what to do on a personal brand since this is again something that is uncomfortable for me.  I will say that I have a life moto which is “If you don’t like your circumstances, change them.”  So to me that is my personal brand.  But if I had to pick one of the other statements on the assignment I would say that I support/help/empower/activate others by being honest and sincere, by lifting people up and helping them find the things in life that make them happy.

I have created a LinkedIn account today but didn’t put a ton of information on it and I haven’t honestly done anything to any of my other social media sites.  I guess if I am making a social media strategy for myself it would be to post more things that are personal so that my friends and family can feel that they are somewhat connected.  I honestly used to post more, but with a messy divorce and custody battle I didn’t want him and his family being able to find out things.  I think that I am just still in that mindset.

MORE THAN STRESSFUL

So this week for me was beyond stressful, trying to understand how to actually set up all of these profiles, changing my business name, updating my logo etc.  However I have lived through the trama of it all.  My profiles below definitely need work, but pretty impressed with myself that I did it!!!

I stated previously that I was going to do BB Embroidery, which is my company, however I don’t do a lot of embroidery anymore and have moved to more vinyl personalized creations.  So first we changed the name on Facebook to BLUME & CO. CREATIONS–this name is chosen because with a blended family we have various last names and most of my kids help me with various things on my business, so CO. stands for company.  We also created a new logo and posted several things this week.  We started the week with 93 followers on Facebook and invited family and friends to like the new page.  We have ended the week with 100 followers and gaining!!!  We started a twitter and instagram page and used the same logo across the board.

My google search was added to my previous post.

What did you learn

This week I learned about Hootsuite, had no idea that this was a thing.  I find it very interesting that I can see all of my social media on the same platform.  It still confuses me and I know that I will need to play around with it to really get to know it but I like the platform.

I chose my own business as my client.  I don’t really have a business mission other than making cute personalized products for people.  My current social media presence is Facebook and my activity is almost zero.  I just received my first order in a long time and it’s only because one of my friends told a girl out of state that I do this type of thing.  I still think Facebook is the social media platform that I should utilize but may add TikTok as well.

Google Yourself

Well I just did a google search of myself and realize that I am a very boring person when it comes to social media LOL.  I am on Facebook and that was easy enough to find but most of my other accounts are under my divorced last name which isn’t easy to find unless you know me.  I forgot that my pinterest account name was clutzygirl–how embarrassing, but of course I had one of my kids set it up for me.  I do not post a lot on anything, almost none actually.  On Facebook I occasionally share other peoples posts but honestly I am there to scroll through the drama, I have twitter, snapchat and instagram, however I didn’t find those in my google search of myself but I only have those things to keep tabs on my children.  So all in all looks like I lead a pretty boring life on social media, which would probably make my kids very happy.

5 Core Strengths

Well I just took the Clifton Strengths test and it was honestly very difficult for me.  You choose the best of the two items that describes you, well some didn’t really describe me at all and some both described me.  The other thing is some made me feel very selfish after I answered them.  My strengths came back as Strategic, Futuristic, Restorative, Ideation and Positivity. I completely agree with strategic, I think strategy every move I make in life.  Futuristic I can see that as I don’t look back to the past all of the time, I have my eye on the prize.  Restorative is just a word for problem solver which I would agree with.  Ideation I’m not so sure about, but part of it is because I honestly don’t understand the meaning  Positivity I would tend to agree with that for the most part, but never ask my husband that.

Overall I think that the test was a good eye opener and would probably take it again in the future.

Introduction

Hi I am Amy Blume, I go by Beth in most other facets of my life, I am currently getting through my degree one course at a time.  You see I am a 42 year old full time career, mom of 6 kids (blended family), 3 dogs, 1 cat and have added school onto that list.  I have no year of graduation at this point because I am going slow, but you know what they say slow and steady wins the race.  I am currently working on my second associates degree as none of my credits from my first (tech school) transferred, I am hoping some day to graduate with a Bachelor’s in Marketing, even if I am 60 when I finally do it.  I currently work in marketing or at least that is what my company calls it.  Our corporate marketing department does more of the creative work and those things, I actually do more of the local ad set up with the creatives from corporate, I plan events, I work with sales agents and get them the flyers and items that they need etc.  I am taking this course because my corporation just allowed the agents to start using Facebook business pages and I am hoping to learn things to take back to them.

Three things I hope to learn–

How to better market through social media.

The power of social media when you own a company.

Various types of social media marketing.
