My Online Brand

For this week’s assignment, our goal was to google ourselves and take note of what we found. We were supposed to take note of any patterns and evaluate our overall online presence. My online presence was about what I expected. I had my Facebook and Twitter of course, but there were a few things that also surprised me. I had a profile on a shopping site called Storenvy that appeared quite high on the search results. My profile on a dating site called Hot or Not was also among the results and as it was quite old it was a little embarrassing. I noticed that if I switched between my legal name (Abigail), and my nickname that I am most often referred to (Abby), that i got slightly different results. My goal for this semester in terms of my personal is branding is to keep streamlining myself. I need to update the information on the important sites and cut the fat from the rest. I hope to familiarize myself with privacy settings on certain sites to protect myself as well. I have already made my twitter private but I’m wondering if there are other smaller things I can do. Onto the next week!

    Abby, this is a good start (great awareness in discovering what’s out there that you would like to change in the future). Make sure to take a screenshot of your Google results, so you can compare at the end of the semester. Same with the data for each of your social networks (friends, likes, #comments, etc.) and the type of content you’re currently posting.
