Global Reflection of Portfolio

Write a Global Reflection of the Portfolio process.  How did the electronic portfolio help you in your ability to self-assess your skills over time in the dental hygiene program?  What changes were you able to see in yourself and your dental hygiene skills when reviewing your evidence of work from the first to the last semester of your dental hygiene education?

Doing this portfolio had helped me to assess my skills over times by providing me with the information to see the wide variety of patients I have seen at each clinic, how much more information I have learned about different cases based off of assignments and helped me to see growth in my knowledge through the expansion of my vocabulary used in my portfolio. Having this portfolio allowed me to reflect through each step of the way and find areas that I could work on to improve my skill. My electronic profile has provided me with the opportunity to see my growth both clinically and academically. I started not being able to give my own injections to patients to help them be comfortable until now at the end of clinic 4 where I am giving my own injections. I can thoroughly assess and create a treatment plan for patients with special needs and periodontal disease. My growth over all has shown me that through hard work and dedication anything is possible. I see that I have gained many skills to help me in my future such as lesson planning, working on treatment plans and communicating well with my patients. I was able to see the expansion of my knowledge and the confidence of my skill shown through my writing. I have been able to do my own assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation to people of all stages of life, ages, and cultural backgrounds. Since the beginning of my hygiene school journey I have also been able to use great communication skills with my patients, classmates, and other health professionals such as faculty from diverse backgrounds. Overall I can see that I completed my education with confidence to go out into the real world and be a successful dental hygienist.
