Social Media Policy

So for my client, I decided to use the AP social media guidelines as kind of an outline.

Accounts

All Berner Studios employees are encouraged to have accounts on any sort of social media. They are a great tool to interact with people as well as get feedback. Employees must identify themselves as being a part of Berner Studios if they decide to use their account for work in any way. They only need to list that in their bio.

Opinion

Employees must be aware that any opinion that they post could harm the company as some may feel that they are expressing the companies views. Employees should refrain from trash talking anyone. Competitors could become allies at some point and we don’t want to damage a possible relationship. Trash-talking also reflects poorly on the company.

Privacy

Employees must keep in mind that any information they share may be linked to Berner Studios. It’s recommended to customize your privacy settings to determine what you what to share and with whom. But remember, nothing on the internet is ever truly private.

Retweeting

Retweets, as with tweets, should not be written in a way that looks like you’re expressing a personal opinion on issues.

Friending/Following

It is acceptable to extend and accept Facebook friend requests from anyone, and to follow them on twitter. But take caution on friending or “liking” political candidates or causes that may cause a perception among people that Berner Studios staff are advocates.

Publishing

Berner Studios staff are encouraged to link to Berner Studios content in any format. They are also welcome to link content from other media organizations. Staffers must not post on social networks any information that could jeopardize the safety of the staff.

Interacting with users

Berner Studios is strongly in favor of engaging with those who consume our content. It’s best to avoid back-and-forth exchanges with angry people. These sorts of statements should be flagged for customer service immediately.

Other things to remember

Any response you make to a viewer could go public. It may seem private, but could easily become viewable to the public.

Interacting with Berner Studios Accounts

Staff are welcome to retweet and share material posted by the official Berner Studios accounts on social media sites.

Overall, I feel that this covers most of everything.

That’s all for now,

-K
