The Social World

February29

I am working on my business page, but recently I have started helping cousin and her business in South Carolina. I have been busy managing several people in the social media world. I will begin with my cousin’s new employer. They are opening a zipline park in Charleston. I went to look at their website and their facebook, there were suggestions I told them about. I started by explaining that their website needed social media feature. The owner of this company has a facebook and that is it. When I looked at their facebook they had six friends. I suggested that they make at least six post and then share one with their friends. I am pleased to report they are now close to 200 friends you can see their facebook page here.  I am working on them to get a twitter, but that might take awhile. They are scared of the Twitter.

When it comes to my business page we decided on a hashtag this week as well as a cover photo. We should have the cover photo updating this week. I am the accountant for this business so I delegated my duties to other to find the cover photo and decide on the hashtag. I was able to get the photo done and I am trusting the boys will update it soon. Below you can see the new cover photo. I also change some of the setting in our facebook page to help show a little about ourselves. I also added our competitors on the insight page so we can keep up with they are doing. Here is the link to Premier Baseball. I have a request in to change the vanity url.

Social Media World

February15

I am so sheltered. I can not believe there are so many different social media networks out there. This week I have ended up joining Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, and Pinterest. I can say I am now in love with Pinterest. I also found a new love in Linkedin as well. I have been reading tons of business articles on the site; I am learning so much. The site that most intrigues me is Tumblr. Tumblr has the demographic I am looking for to grow my business.

I love the age range in Tumblr because that is the age group my business caters to 13-19 year-olds. I need to know how to gain followers and how to post effectively. When it comes to Twitter I need to know how find people in my area to follow me. I found an app that adds followers, but I need followers in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. I have an instagram that is growing but would love more followers. I hope by the end of this class I can learn how to grow this customer base.

Blocked by Facebook

February7

Well I am of least importance when it comes to my name on Google. I have been beat out by a restaurant chain that uses my full name. I think that is pretty awesome, I bet people think I am loaded. Here is a link to their website http://kobcob.com/index.php. I already knew about this ten  years ago when I first searched my name. I like the fact I can not be found easily on Google. I do however need to be found quickly on Facebook for work purposes.

I use my facebook for mostly work and very little social aspects in my life. I will post a few things that I do in my personal life in hopes of floating by facebook’s policies. I have recently had my account locked by facebook because I did not use my real name. I went by KO Softball. When I worked for JCPRD I was not allowed to use social media to market my events or leagues. I created KO Softball to hide my identity from my job and that is how I became known in my market area. Then in the fall of 2015 Facebook locked my account and demanded my State I.D. in order to allow me to have my profile back. Once I sent them the info they changed my name and locked my settings. I slightly resent Facebook for this, but I need it to reach my customer base. What a bummer that you do not have full control of your profile as many of you may think.

Strengths

February1

My five strengths for the most part described me. I not sure how much I buy into this test. I just want to give you a background of my events yesterday and explain how this may have affected my test results. I think if my week did not end on high note I could see how this might affect the results.

I started my last week with it being my birthday and preparing for three major events on Saturdays. These events included a Fastpicth Camp for girls, College Baseball Showcase for boys, then ending the night downtown with a beautiful dinner and awards ceremony for the USSSA Kansas Slowpitch Hall of Fame. In our small company I had the main duty of coordinating the dinner and awards ceremony. I put in countless hours last week making this dinner a success. I believe if this dinner was not a success, I would have felt differently about the questions it asked me. I am sure personality wise I answered the questions correctly, but professionally if I would have failed last night I think I would have a different perspective  of who I was professionally.

My first strength was positivity. I do have this strength and I use it to my advantage there no questions asked. I had this project for this dinner and I put a lot of effort and made it a big deal. I ended up filling the dinner space with just over  200 people. I also do this with all my events, I make it sound like it is a place to be.

The second – fourth strength was includer, input, and empathy. I am the type of person who wants everyone included including the people I don’t like. I can always put myself in people’s shoes. I think which makes one of my talents of being able to see both sides and solve a conflict that way. I also thinks this helps me in my relationships, before I start an argument I tend to think about the other side reactions and complaints as well. My boyfriend love to keep his closet in the kitchen, it truly drives me insane!!! I refuse to vacuum or do dishes, so I figure there is no reason to fight on this we are even.

The last strength I question, it was woo. Woo was described as loving to meet new people and enjoy winning them over. I am actually shy, and I do not really care if people like me or not. Last night though I had to work a room full people introducing myself, smiling, shaking hands, and giving hugs. I would prefer not to be a wooer. I think the first strength helped me get through last night.

I took this test this afternoon and I believe if the event last night was not a success, I would have felt differently about some of questions the test asked. I think this would have resulted a few different results. That is just my opinion and could just be personality. I did however enjoy the test.

K-O Who R U ?

January20

K-O is my name in the sports world. My birth name is Kelly. I am from Ohio, where I spent my childhood and teenage years playing softball and helping my dad with his umpire association. I started managing adult softball leagues straight out of high school. In my mid-twenties Johnson County Parks and Recreation offered me a position with their organization. Taking a chance on change I left all my friends and family and moved to Kansas by myself.

I spent seven years at JCPRD. The experience was interesting to say the least. I had left my friends and family to work a job where team work did not exist, and disciplinary actions were common and encouraged. I spent seven years building bonds with my customers and my own employees. The customers were the sunshine in the dark government rigmarole that I worked in. Many customers and my own employees wondered how and why I stayed so long in job that was clearly trying to get me to quit. I stayed because I was determined not fail, and if I was going to leave it was going to be on my own terms.

In late 2014 I met an entrepreneur in a business meeting. The meeting was about some rental dates at my facility, my boss at the time was less than interested and left the meeting early.  Once it was us alone at the round table we started discussing his business plan. It was clear he needed my help and I offered. It in late January 2015 we became an official business. I continued to work at JCPRD and for him, in return he worked for me, helping me on my work that I didn’t get much assistance on.  I was finally seeing a team work environment after six years.  In mid-May we had grew enough capitol for me to quit my job and start working for All America Events.

It was not long after we started All American Events we added another partner who wanted to add a training facility for baseball/softball players. In late 2015 we opened Premier Sports Development or also known as Premier Baseball. Growing a business takes a lot of hard work and dedication, which brings me here to this class, this blog.

We are doing well as start-up company, but lack the knowledge and experience in social media marketing. I am taking this class in hopes it will help grow our customer base. I hope to learn to use the social media correctly to get the word out about our events and company.  We have currently acquired a second state to run our business in but we are unaware of how to reach the people in the new state. I hope that this class will grow that second state. I am very open to any classmates who want to use our business for the project in this class. I feel if I do it I may be too bias. If you are interested please let me know.
