Well I am of least importance when it comes to my name on Google. I have been beat out by a restaurant chain that uses my full name. I think that is pretty awesome, I bet people think I am loaded. Here is a link to their website http://kobcob.com/index.php. I already knew about this ten years ago when I first searched my name. I like the fact I can not be found easily on Google. I do however need to be found quickly on Facebook for work purposes.
I use my facebook for mostly work and very little social aspects in my life. I will post a few things that I do in my personal life in hopes of floating by facebook’s policies. I have recently had my account locked by facebook because I did not use my real name. I went by KO Softball. When I worked for JCPRD I was not allowed to use social media to market my events or leagues. I created KO Softball to hide my identity from my job and that is how I became known in my market area. Then in the fall of 2015 Facebook locked my account and demanded my State I.D. in order to allow me to have my profile back. Once I sent them the info they changed my name and locked my settings. I slightly resent Facebook for this, but I need it to reach my customer base. What a bummer that you do not have full control of your profile as many of you may think.
Kelly, I can understand that Facebook is important for marketing your business/events. We will talk about BUSINESS pages, which allow you more options anyway.
Facebook does indeed reserve the right to lock/remove any account (profile) that isn’t actually a “person” (per the “terms of agreement”). When FB Pages first came out, several businesses made the error of thinking they had to create another “Profile.”
Nice work on figuring out where your audience “hangs out” though! 🙂
I think it is only a matter of time before Facebook labels my actual profile as a business. I try to post non business related stuff every couple of days. My name is associated with a product that I produce. I do not know a lot of the people I am friends with on Facebook. I get friend request because people are interested in my events. I can not wait to learn about the business pages. 🙂
Someone may have reported you, perhaps a competitor. FB doesn’t really seem to proactively do stuff like that unless someone tips them off.
