Week 3 – Client Project Overview

This week we learned a basic overview of each of the various social media channels. Nothing was new information, but it was a good review. I have started thinking about each in terms of their strengths rather than just dismissing it for a particular marketing weakness. Ironically, my least favorite social media network at the moment is the one that most view as “professional” — Facebook. It is lacking in organic reach / growth, ability to reach out and find new customers, and succinct profile information. However, its powerful advertising tools will keep it on my radar.

For my client project this semester, I will choose none other than my own business: Insincerely. Insincerely is a lifestyle brand devoted to reckless and rebellious individuals interested in drifting (motorsport) and Japanese culture. Some similar established brands include 40’s and Shorties, Huf, and Jimmy Up. The brand image/personality is reckless, rebellious, ornery, sarcastic, dark, rude, grungy, and edgy. These are the values I try to reflect in my social media presence. Past products include stickers, face masks, and inappropriate valve caps. I’m getting ready to release a whole new set of products including t-shirts and new hand-printed stickers.

Existing channels include Facebook, Instagram, and a Twitter I just set up. Facebook is maintained for support/legacy. I would prefer to have no Facebook at all, but some individuals have not yet made the switch to Instagram. I also plan to use it for advertising with big product releases such as the one coming up. I plan on using the Twitter page to reach out to individuals and build brand awareness. I have such a small audience now that each new customer can greatly affect sales.

Instagram is my main social media channel. I have effective hashtags that bring exponential impressions to my content. I can build my desired brand image via associations with the reckless content I post. Purchasers often contact me via Instagram to show pictures of their goodies installed on their cars or just show off videos of them doing stupid stunts. I’ve had several people reach out to me about inventory and printing services. I have the most followers, most loyal consumer base, most activity, and most overall interest on my Instagram page.

Throughout the semester I want to start building a bigger audience on each. However, I know that Instagram is the biggest channel for Insincerely, so I will continue to leverage it the most.

Great overview, Silas! You know your audience better than anyone, and I agree with finding the strengths of each platform (especially while experimenting in this class)…I’m glad you’re not overruling any platform just yet, even Facebook. 🙂

Remember to share screenshots and links to each of your “client’s” social media profiles so you can compare at the end of the semester. ?
