Personal brand statement:
I use my intelligence, skills, and drive to entertain, inspire, and solve problems for individuals with a similar lifestyle.
Personal Social Media Strategy:
As a marketer, I plan on letting my portfolio and client work speak for my skills and personal touch. My personal media will take a secondary role in the background. I keep it more private and post less frequently. I don’t want to scare off clients just because my personal lifestyle does not match with their customers’. As a marketer, I can understand different consumers and figure out ways to incorporate other lifestyles. Potential clients may not understand this distinction. This is why I have chosen to keep it limited and private.
The most important thing at the moment is keeping my personal social media consistent with both my business and professional accounts. I want people coming from either channel to be able to instantly verify that this is the same person. This means marking my education and work experiences so people coming from LinkedIn can see I am the same person. But this also means including promotion or graphics from my business: Insincerely.
Instead of Twitter, I have substituted my Instagram. I have no intention of ever using twitter personally so it would be useless to set one up.
My LinkedIn is very well optimized. I recently set it up in another class and spent some time going through adding fields and information. My Facebook needed to be greatly updated in the about section. I had some “glitch text” from when I was much younger and interested in glitch art production. My Instagram needed to be updated if for no other reason than I no longer have a Miata. My handle was Mazda_Frittata because I originally set it up as a means of documenting progress with my project car. After it was destroyed, I kept the handle for familiarity’s sake. My bio also needed to be updated. I had changed it to a humorous but entirely untruthful bio some time ago.
I updated my bio on Facebook to really show my education, interests, and skills. I also went ahead and changed my middle name to my real name, not my old screen-name. Finally, I added featured photos. You can see the before and after here:
I also updated my Instagram using the same bio. I linked to my LinkedIn on both accounts. I also updated my handle to “silas.t.williams” and updated my profile picture to match.
