Over the course of this semester, I have gained some helpful knowledge on social media. I learned just how quick it is to publish a bad image, how challenging it can be to gain a following, how hashtags and click through links can help boost engagement, as well as how to market yourself towards a specific audience. But what caught me off guard was how often employers check your social media accounts before even following through with an interview. There’s been many times where I’ve seen people post something incredibly stupid and downright disrespectful, and get turned away from a job. Not only that, but those employers can also note to other potential employers about such actions as well. That’s been the lesson that’s stuck with me the most. Nothing truly disappears with social media. One screenshot is all it takes. Attached is the report I completed on my client.
Certification
Good morning,
Over the course of this semester, I have learned about various ways to make our social media platforms more efficient, intuitive, and engaging. The site I used was Hootsuite.com and I believe that this site is a good way for social media users to learn strategies to monitor their social media accounts. By the end of the semester, we had to have finished and taken the exams for our Social Marketing Certification, as well as our Hootsuite platform Certification.
Valued Lessons
Hi there,
Throughout this lesson I’ve had a few takeaways here. Some of the takeaways I’ve gotten was, make sure your profiles are optimized, analyze your audience behavior, as well as make your social media presence a clean slate of yourself. But the lesson I was most drawn to was the lesson about our own personal branding and social media. It was also the most valuable lesson to me for a couple reasons. Number 1, it’s always a good idea to make yourself presentable to other people, especially employers. Employers will take a look at candidates social media accounts to ensure that they’re not hiring anyone that’s either blasted their business, or has posted about being involved with criminal activity. Another reason I found it valuable is because one day, our social media sites will be virtual time capsules. We want to have a social media presence we’d want to show our kids and grandkids. It’s who we are. Especially during a time where social media is as popular as ever.
Ads
Hello all,
As I scrolled through my clients’ social media, I noticed that the vast majority of ads popping up on the social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn), are all floral and landscaping based. This is effective for us because it helps us gather ideas on how to promote our products and services, such as our new holidays wreaths, and a wine and design class. We believe that by seeing what other business’ do, we can use that to our advantage by helping mold our advertising tactics.
I believe that companies can track their success of their social media ads based on two things. Number 1, the amount of times the ad has been clicked on. Many business’ use “pay-per-click” which helps companies monitor how often their ads are clicked on by users. Another way companies can track how successful their ad campaigns are is by doing a before and after of their sales numbers based on the ad they publish.
As we all know, the holiday season is here. Many people are beginning to put up their Christmas decorations, and get into the holiday spirit. My client has created Christmas wreaths to sell to those wanting to spice up their homes/business’ for the upcoming Christmas season. Below is the ad I created to be published on her social media sites. It features a clear, and colorful image of her wreath, and it has a Christmas colored ad theme that provides a website to go to buy the wreath.
Pumpkin Bouquet
It’s time for the best season ever!
As you all know, fall is here. Which ultimately means pumpkin carving, apple cider, lattes, falling leaves, and of course, bonfires.
However, flowers are still around which means people are looking for creative ways to style their flowers. My client has shown her classes how to create a “Pumpkin Flower Bouquet”, and I presented to her this graphic I created, giving a brief overview of the product and how much it costs to make it.
Week 8 Topic
After speaking with my client Lori, she noted that she had gained 20 followers on Facebook within the last 30 days, so now her goal is to gain an additional 20. She did note that if we could hit an additional 30 followers, bringing her 50 new followers within the month, that would “kick butt:. Her Instagram has also gained 14 followers within the last 30 days.
So, our focus for Facebook is to grow her page by 30 followers within the month, and since Twitter and LinkedIn are brand new pages, we aim to grow those pages to 15 new followers within the first thirty days. As the weeks go by, based on how her pages do, we will adjust the growth goals as needed. I recommended to Lori that we had questionnaires to her pages do engage users in providing suggestions on what they would like to do/see. Lori is a little skeptical of it as of now, but is looking into trying it. I had advised her that things such as polls, questionnaires, trivia, and community room chats are great ways to boost consumer engagement.
Social Community
Good afternoon everyone.
My client Lori Neely, with CultivateDesign KC has wrapped her business around middle aged landscapers who strive to better their yards, and homes with colorful flowers, sprouting shrubs, and cultivating designs to help transform their yards. While she strives to help everyone, her biggest demographic is middle aged women. This has especially helped Lori as she has been able to help design bouquets, and floral baskets in a more “feminine” way, and she’s been able to help morph her scheduling around a women’s lifestyle.
However, my biggest suggestion to her is, to make sure she reaches out to the younger generations more often. The up and coming generation is going to be the generation that propels our economy into the future, and small business owners are at stake here. If Lori expanded and developed strategies and tips around young landscapers, she can help influence a whole new array of inspiration. With this suggestion in mind, it will help her achieve her goal of expanding across the Kansas City metro area, and grow her social media following among younger people now instead of the older generations. After all, the youth is what drives social media.
My Personal Social Media
Hi there.
I use my social media to inspire others to go out, explore, and enjoy life. Life is way to short to sit around like a mop on the sofa, stuffing your face with junk food. With trying times such as now, it’s more important now than ever to get out there, and enjoy what life has to offer.
Through this semester, my goal with especially, LinkedIn, is to develop a social media page that will launch my portfolio into the professional world, to help enhance my engagements with professionals and businesses as my career takes off. I aim to grow my LinkedIn by connecting with other people who share the same career interests, skills, and experiences. I also hope with my blog page to further grow my audience by adapting to new ways to write posts, add more photos, and develop a theme to my writings.
I just recently updated my Facebook and twitter pages, as seen below. The main things I updated in each was the profile backgrounds/photos, my bio’s as well as my current work/education status. Below I have attached my fresh start at a LinkedIn page, being a first time user, it was a little tricky to get thee hang of how LinkedIn works, or even yet where do I start. However, I feel as if I created a LinkedIn page that helps describe y work experience, having worked in the financial industry for over a year now.
Social Media Strategy
Hey all,
This past week my client, Lori, and I sat down and discussed our game plan for a social media strategy. She frequently posts on both her Instagram and Facebook pages which gives users insight on her business. What we decided to do was incorporate that same pattern on Twitter and LinkedIn. We also agreed that we want to expand the business more throughout the greater Kansas City area by connecting with other floral designers and landscapers through social media. We’ll also post more and promote the Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages to gain more followers.
Social Media Sites
Hey there,
I took a look at various videos on Hootsuite.com regarding different social media backgrounds. Starting off with Twitter, I learned that Twitter not only uses the page to advertise to customers or potential customers, but, they also reach out to customers and other vendors. This is a “two way connection”. With Linkedin, I learned that campaign managers use their site to promote paid ads that are directed to a specific group of people. When it comes to Linkedin, I didn’t know businesses used that site to market and promote to customers. I had always thought that Linkedin was used to help people find jobs and for employers to conduct some social media research on potential hires.
I’m a pretty heavy Instagram user with just over 1,600 followers and averaging about 400 likes per post. However, I didn’t know that Instagram has the feature of contests for businesses. I think that’s a pretty cool and engaging feature for customers to get involved with their business. Youtube has always been a site I’ve used frequently, just not as a creator. Until now, I didn’t know that audience analytics were collected for creators with a following on the site including the demographics of viewers. When I think of Pinterest, I think of users finding inspiration for designs, food, trips, and outfit ideas. Never did I think that businesses actually used Pinterest.
Overall, I didn’t realize how much businesses utilize and rely on social media to drive their business. A lot of it also has to do with the demographics of people with the biggest factor being what appeared to be the age. Which in turn, makes sense. You can’t promote a 2022 Mercedes GLE with augmented reality for the navigation system to someone who’s 80. They are not inclined to use technology like people who are even in their 40’s are. Same applies to marketing antiques to someone who’s only 19 years old. They are all about technology and innovation. I would really like to see how businesses have evolved over the years with the growth in social media usage among age groups and I would like to see the different ways businesses use their social media sites.
