My Client

This week, I learned a lot more about the depths of social media marketing. There is actually A LOT of work that goes into posts and different strategies for your target audience.

My client for this semester will be the Riordan Clinic. The Riordan Clinic is based out of Wichita, KS, but has two other locations in Hays and Shawnee, Kansas. This nonprofit’s main focus of work is to improve the health of others in treating the root of the problem rather than treating the symptoms. By doing this, the Riordan Clinic has successfully treated numerous diseases in hundreds of patients.

Currently, the Riordan Clinic has a Facebook, Google Plus, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn and Youtube account. When looking at how active each of these accounts are, I have noticed that Facebook is definitely the most used and has more recent posts than the other networks. Their Twitter and Instagram’s most recent posts are from the summer of 2016, so it is obvious that those are not their main sites. One thing that I liked about their Pinterest, is that they have multiple health and work out related pins, which isn’t necessarily promoting the organization but promoting health in general.

My Personal Brand

To my surprise, there weren’t many results when googling my full name. My Facebook page came up, but both my Instragram and Twitter did not along with zero pictures of myself on google images.

Although I did not find much about myself by googling my name, my buddy who was assigned to google me as well did find my Instagram page.

To improve my search results with more of my actual stuff coming up, I could make my accounts public instead of private which they are now. My goals for my online presence this semester are for more of my accounts to actually show up in the result of searching my name. I also can make a LinkedIn account which would most likely (I hope) show up when googling my name.

My Strengths

My results from the Clifton Strength Finder Test were not all that surprising. The five strengths I received were restorative, adaptability, relator, command, and competition. In my opinion, knowing my strengths can help me focus putting them into real life work and school situations, but also guide me in the direction of finding out what my weaknesses are.

There are many ways I can take full advantage of my strengths throughout class and my future careers. Being restorative means loving a challenge instead of letting it get the best of me. In school and work this is a great strength to have because there are often times where a hard task could potentially get the best of me. Instead of letting that happen, I can tackle the situation and restore it completely into something awesome.

Being adaptable is also needed when being brought into new situations whether it being work or school. There will always be new tasks and projects to get done, and being adaptable means that I can be quick to settling into the new project.

When having a job or going to school, there will always be new faces and new people to meet. Clifton describes that being a relator means understanding and putting yourself in your close friends shoes, and wanting the same from them. To me, this is a good strength to have in the work field because there’s always a way to help your coworker. At the same time though, Clifton explains that this isn’t always the case when meeting new people. So knowing my strength to relate with my close friends, I can work on my weakness of overcoming getting close with new people.

Command is my fourth strength and definitely one of my strongest. I have always been one to take charge and wear my mind on my sleeve, holding no opinion back. This can help me in school and work because I will never be intimidated to ask questions or correct someone when making a mistake. But, this can also drag me down if I get too comfortable and begin correcting mistakes that aren’t even there. Which has happened before.

My last strength is competition. I have always been so so competitive. This can be a great thing in school and work because wanting the be the best, means trying your best. And trying your best is everything when working on an assignment, or a work project. This can drag me down though when I let competing get the best of me, or turning something into a competition that isn’t.

Intro

Hi,

I’m Abby Marsh and I am a sophomore at JCCC. I am a transfer from the University of Kansas and chose to spend my sophomore year of college here to save money and finish my general education classes at a JUCO.

I have recently changed my major from psychology to marketing because I have had more experience with marketing in two internships. The first marketing internship I did was for my mothers coworker at the Riordan Clinic in Wichita, KS. The Riordan Clinic is a non-profit organization which focuses on naturopathic medicine. Here, I worked for the Director of Marketing, mostly doing simple tasks and side jobs that Erin (my boss) could not get to because of her busy schedule. Some of the bigger tasks I did were to make spread sheets which listed different doctors from around the U.S that could be invited to the annual symposium the Riordan Clinic hosts. I also made goodie baskets for new employees at the new location in Shawnee. Other smaller projects I did was to go to our facebook page and reply to comments from locals, create other spreadsheets, and other normal office duties.

The second internship I had was this past summer of 2017, where I worked for a programming business called Sharp Edge. Here I spent the summer doing a lot of the same things I did for the other company I worked for. I helped create their LinkedIn account and did a lot of administrative office duties.

So, you can probably guess why I am taking this course. I would like to learn more about the way social media marketing works to get a better understanding of the marketing world. In this course I would like to learn the basics of marketing, what it takes to be in the marketing business, and the different kinds of marketing.
