Week 8

I found this week to be rather interesting. Personal Branding is no longer a choice as it is now a necessity. Social media sites have kind of a become a double edged sword of sorts. They are fun and a great way to connect with friends and family, but they also are things that future and current employers can look at. We’ve learned that consistency is key and it’s no exception here. You really need to take stock of your social media profiles, get rid of the old ones that you don’t use and clean up the ones that you do. You need to make sure that anything an employer can find, is something that you would be ok with them seeing. It was discussed that you should spam your friends on facebook with notifications and such, I’ve had quite a few people do that with invites to different facebook games and it does get annoying after awhile. The point brought up during the video about hashtags on twitter was definitely a really important thing that I think most people don’t think about. You need to look at the other posts in that hashtag and make sure that there aren’t any really vulgar tweets. After learning more about linkedin, I can see why a lot of people use it. The more you fill out your profile, the more connections you can build. You can use your resume to help find something in common with a possible connection or maybe find someone that you both have a connection with, to provide an introduction. If you can’t find either of the two, just simply send a private message to the person listing the reasons why you would like to connect and from what it seems, most people are willing to do so.

As for my personal brand, it needs work. After watching all the videos and reading the articles, there are a lot of things that I can do to improve the image that I have for my future career employers. The changes aren’t necessarily hard to do, so I’ve been working on implementing them slowly. As for my other project, I love the hootsuite scheduler. It’s now so much easier to post content when you can do it with just a few clicks. So basically, a few tweaks and some extra content and I feel pretty great about the progress that I’ve made.

That’s all for now.
