Social Ads Targeting Me

As we take a look at what ads are targeting us on our social media channels it becomes more clear as how and why we may have these sponsored ads showing up on our news feeds.

The following are ads that are targeted at me and my thought behind them targeting me:

Facebook:

  • Farmers Insurance- probably because I am in their database because I filled out a form years ago just to get rate quotes, and now they call me and send me brochures in the mail all the time too.
  • Periscopedata- this is a software that analyzes your data from your existing database. I imagine this is here because of some cookies on my PC from searching content for assignments from classes.
  • Best Buy- Because some of my friends have liked Best Buy now they display ads to me.

Twitter:

  • Amazon- probably because I have recently viewed and purchased on Amazon so they must have placed a cookie
  • Volkswagen USA- I have no idea why they would be targeting me I have not searched or shown interest in purchasing a vehicle or searched a for a vehicle in a couple years.

None of these ad have appealed to me because I am not really interested in any of them at the moment. The only one that might slightly appeal would be the Amazon ad, but when I use Amazon I go there as direct traffic not trough paid referral. I am direct traffic because I visit the site with an intent to purchase something I know I want/need. The success of these companies social ads can be tracked and measured through many different software programs. One of the most popular and free software programs would be Google Analytics. The company can track the success of not only the social ads but the entire marketing campaign through Google Analytics which track the sources of the visits to the webpages.
