I believe that internships that involve community change are the most helpful when it comes to developing skills that can help you stand out for any job position. For example, I work primarily with social platforms and marketing, but am doing an internship with a nonprofit to help raise awareness for child abuse in KC. This specific topic is not something I’m very educated on, but the experience I will learn from it puts me at a better chance for developing skills that will help me in my future job field. I believe this internship will help strengthen my communication between future employers, help me understand time management and flexibility within this position, and help me understand the needs of my future employers better.
I believe that classes such as this one and others that involved getting certified with hootsuite, rubin-emerge and trailhead can help tremendously with future careers because they require you to slow down and take the time to learn. If I had some extra time, I would learn more about photoshop and graphic design because those are things that could help me in my future career as well.
If I had to choose two people to reach out to and interview, they would be Mark Schaefer and Marsha Collier because they are the top two social media marketers in the world. I would want to learn more about each of them individually, because it is always more interesting to learn about how two different people ended up in the same career path. It is my goal to be on the list of top social media marketers in the world, so it would be amazing to learn from the best.
You’ll have access to LinkedIn Learning for a month this semester and perhaps you can pick out a course/learning path about Photoshop and/or Graphic Design. 🙂
