Social Media Strategy for Amazing Lawn and Landscape

The strategies I would like to implement this semester for my client include:

– Building awareness of the company and the services that they can provide

– Gain more “likes” and follows. My main priority is Facebook, because I feel like that is the best platform to inform and gain more customers for the business. The Facebook page currently has 13 “likes”. I would like to achieve an increase of at least 385% to reach 50 likes by the end of this project.

Additionally, I would like to increase the number of followers for the client’s Instagram account, which currently has 8 followers. Ideally, I would like to achieve a follower increase of at least 300% by the end of this project, which would put the page at 24 followers. I plan on spreading awareness by following other local businesses and using relevant hashtags.

– Lastly, I would like to establish a consistent posting schedule to help me reach my goals, starting with one post per week. Posts will include photos of landscaping projects completed by the business, suggestions on when to coordinate seasonal services such as raking leaves, snow removal, spring cleanup, and encouraging viewers to contact the business to schedule their desired service.

2. Three aspects to improve upon on Twitter:

– Establish a consistent posting schedule (once per week).

– Gain more followers, particularly local businesses.

– Build lists of profiles related to the business.

Establishing a Social Media Presence

When I Googled “Amazing Lawn and Landscape”, I did not find much related to this particular company.

Only related result was #10 on the first page. A listing for Porch.com for their Denver-based business. It doesn’t give sufficient information about the company and what services they offer. Additionally, there is no information found for the Kansas City-based business, which is where the company started.

My first step to address this lack of information was to create a simple yet interest-grabbing logo for the company:

From there, I created a profile/page for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Youtube.

Facebook – created page, added necessary contact and service information, “about us”, profile and cover photos, posted finished job from one client, invited family of business owners to “like” the page.

Instagram – created profile, added profile picture, followed a few family members of owner and some other local business pages.

LinkedIn – created profile, uploaded profile and cover photos, included some services provided, “about us”, locations.

Twitter – created profile, uploaded profile and cover photos, “about us”, followed 30 different Tweeters both locally and nationally.

Youtube – created profile, uploaded profile and cover photos.

I still have plenty of work to do in order to fully optimize these pages. A lot of these decisions will depend on what the owners want. One thing I learned that I look forward to implementing is building specialized lists on Twitter, especially a private list to follow competitors and see what how they engage with the community. Facebook’s “Pages to Watch” will also be a useful tool to use for the same reason.

My Personal Brand

For starters, when I tried to Google “Brigid Hough”, Google did not give me any results related to me. This makes sense because I actually go by Katie everywhere except the JCCC/Canvas platforms.

When I Google “Katie Hough Kansas City”, however, I did find my LinkedIn profile, but no Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or any other profiles. I also found a really awkward interview with Fox 4 after my house had been burgled back in January 2017, which I wish could be deleted from all existence.

I’ve always thought that it is a good thing that not much can be discovered about me through a simple search, but part of me wonders if I should try to make myself more accessible on the web so that potential employers can learn more about me and hopefully hire me after seeing how I conduct myself on social media.

My goals for this semester are to have that question answered, and learn more about what else I can do to ensure that my personal brand is the best that it can be.

Utilizing My Strengths

Based on the StrengthsQuest Assessment, my five strengths are  restorative, deliberate, strategic, relator, and analytical.

These traits will help me strive to identify the most efficient and effective ways to find solutions to problems and achieve the goals set out before me both in this class and in my future career. They will aid me in creating new ways to complete assignments or developing new ways to gain clients.

While I can relate to all of these strengths, I feel that restorative is the strength I use most often in my daily life. I am always faced with new problems or tasks at my job, and it’s important that I know how to identify them and respond with an appropriate solution.

About me

Hi everyone!

My name is Brigid. I am somewhere between a sophomore and a junior. I already have an Associate in Arts degree from Metropolitan Community College, but decided to transfer to Johnson County Community College to earn a Digital Marketing certificate before transferring to a four-year university to pursue a degree in journalism and marketing. I gained some marketing experience from managing the social media accounts for my academic honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. I am taking this course in order to gain a better understanding of how social media can impact a business or organization’s success.

Three things I hope to learn from this class:

  • How to develop creative content that will attract new followers/customers
  • How to use social media platforms effectively and efficiently
  • How to implement successful marketing campaigns using social media
